Shortly beforehand, they had been presented with gold and platinum for ....Pure Instinct.... and the record company had surprised this probably most successful of all German bands with a unique relief, created by Zdzislaw ....Chico.... Mikolajczak. The artist who was born in Kepno, Poland on the 27.6.1958, has created a lot of portraits of well known bands and artists. At the age of four, he started to carve his toys out of wood and bark. In junior school, he started forming sculptures out of soap, clay and plaster. Later, he began to carve figures of musicians out of soap. Miniatures of his favourite band Nazareth were formed from this material, complete with speakers, drum-kit and instruments! Chico graduated from high school and worked on busts, of his parents amongst others. During military service, he occupied himself, as a sculpturer and painter, with life as an soldier. Many of this pieces were exhibited and won awards and prizes. In 1983, Chico moved to Germany And began again, to associate his love of music with his artwork, at first, just as a hobby and for fun. As interest in his relief grew, Chico did more work in this direction and made himself a good name as a relief-artist. Chico has created relief portraits of Judas Priest, AC/DC, Kreator, Guns..n..Roses, Pink Floyd, Mtley Cre, Metallica, Bon Jovi, Manowar, Saxon, Scorpions, Nazareth, Sabu, HammerFall, Unrest, Toto, Oliver Shanti & Friends, Bhse Onkelz, Jim Marshall, King of Hofing, Iron Maiden, Der Nieten-Papst, Bonefire and many others. The record company East/West ordered a relief for the Gold/Platinum Award for the Scorpions last CD. Chico integrated the cover of the album ....Pure Instinct.... in his work. The reliefs are usually about 30cm by 30cm (HammerFall for instance, was 35cm by 45cm). The completed relief is then appropriately framed. As the demand for his reliefs is great, Chico now works from a mold, making a strictly limited number of copies. He uses materials like Keramin and Keraqick. These can be coated with a metallic effect finish in copper, silver, tin or bronze. Chico is autodidact, he developed his own technique, which he has improved and broadened over the years. His work has been shown at exhibitions in the USA, Poland, Austria, Germany…... … The large number of prizes and awards Chico has received, show the great recognition and respect for the artists work. Chico likes listening to music, depending on the mood: jazz, classical music particularly Chopin, hard..n..heavy --Judas Priest, but also electronic sounds --Kitaro or Pink Floyd. His main love is heavy metal, this explains why portraits of bands of this genre are so well repre-sented in his work. Nazareth, Journey, Whitesnake, Judas Priest, Metallica, Manowar, HammerFall, Pink Floyd... and...are some of Chico..s favourite bands. Apart from music reliefs, Zdzislaw also forms reliefs of classical pieces of art like Leonardo Da Vinci..s ....last Supper..... Soccer symbols and shields turn up frequently as well, Chico is a great fan of Borusia Dortmund. Through his work, Chico has met many musicians, these meetings frequently resulting in friendship: many a time he has surorised a band with a relief! Meanwhile, Chico holds friendly contact with the musicians of Nazareth, Judas Priest, Metallica, Manowar, HammerFall and many others. Zdislaw Mikolajczak, better known as ....Chico....- is an artist who perpetuates his love of music and respect for the musicians beatyfully in his work. In early march, the first, largest and most extensive permanent Elvis museum outside the United States was opened. ....Elvis History World.... is run by the worlds number one Elvis fan of all time, Hannes ....King of Hofling.... Pum. He too has been perpetuated together with Elvis in one of Chico..s reliefs. Once again, Chico Created an incomparable and expressive piece of first class work. Absolutely incredible!!!..
