The Autonomads are a Manchester based band, heavily influenced by Dub, Punk, Free parties, festivals, nature, others, animals, liberation movements and the like! We have all been and are involved with various other projects in the areas of folk, punk, ska, crust and d-beat. We got together in September '07 and started practicing in a basement in Manchester and soon found an emerging ska/dub/punk sound but we dont limit ourselves to it. We're not adverse to any music so long as its intention is honest and it exists for its own ends rather than the lining of someone’s pockets!
Our first Studio recording was done @ substance studios for the "call this civilization" CD which features over 50 bands and will be released as a collaboration between 3 D.I.Y labels -Riot ska/EHC/Pumpkin Records.http://www.myspace.com/callthiscivilization. We have since been to the studio to record an album which will be out in April 09 on Pumpkin Records (UK) entitled ‘No Man’s Land’. This label is run as a collective and involves an impressive collection of bands who share similar principles, so have a listen to some in our friends list.
We have played a number of gigs around the UK for various causes, including faslane peace camp, A-Fed solidarity,s b travellers site,political prisoner support,critical mass,anti-fa and others. In the last year we have played alongside some of what we consider to be the best bands around - and the punk, squat and activist scene has been welcoming in all the towns and cities we have visited. We did our first uk tour in summer 08 and have continued to gig whenever and wherever we can in venues in the uk. Apart from being a massive amount of fun and a way to meet good people we see our music as a vehicle to drive and highlight our concerns to other people, but in no way do we want people to feel subjected to preaching. This scene is for sharing ideas and we're lucky to have this. We always encourage debate and will talk to anyone about the issues we raise.
In the past we have played free parties, squats, house parties, festivals, pubs so please get in touch via the email if your interested. We are committed to the D.I.Y ethic and we support labels, sound systems, bands, distro’s and anyone who promotes D.I.Y ethics, which we feel are essential allowing our music to retain its integrity.
