Mahala

About Me

Mahala's music is sound of South Africa late at night in the bars where the common people go to burn off steam. It is the sound of township jazz and its purpose is to make you party so hard you jump out the window because you are feeling free. Call it what you may, one thing for sure is Mahala’s sound is not generic and predictable.  Band leader, Mongezi “Chris” Ntaka is a former lead guitarist with South Africa’s reggae artist Lucky Dube and has toured extensively in Africa, Europe, Australia, Japan, the Caribbean and North America. The other member is Eric Schwarz, a blind musician who plays accordion, kalimba and keyboards. On their new CD “Uthando” they’re joined by Masauko Chipembere on vocals and acoustic guitar.
