I'd like to meet:
There aren't too many people I'd like to meet, after all, they're just human beings. No movie stars or musicians or anything like that. Mostly historical figures who left an indelible impression on society in some way. I guess that's why they're considered historical figures. If they'd done nothing notable, for better or for worse, no one would remember them and they'd just be one of billions whose only lasting impression can be seen on rubbing paper. Anyway, who would I like to meet? Interestingly, not Jesus Christ as I am of the belief that I will be meeting him eventually anyway. I would, however, like to meet Judas Iscariot, since I have a feeling he may not be in heaven when I get there. But what do I know? Perhaps he professed his faith in his final moments, only time will tell. I'd also like to meet Benjamin Franklin, a brilliant man, a visionary, who lived a full and fascinating life. Adolf Hitler. Rosa Parks (I'd love to ask her what was running through her mind at the moment she told the white guy to piss off), and I'd also like to meet the man who told her to move. Henry VIII, Elizabeth I (my daughter is named after her, but don't tell my mother-in-law that) and William Shakespeare. I'd also like to see my grandfather again and talk to him about his life as a young man and G.I. during WWII, something I regret never doing while he was alive. Of the living I'd like to meet Lynn Johnston (for reasons only my mother could understand), J.K. Rowling and Maeve Binchy, one cartoonist and two extrodinary female story-tellers. I admire anyone who can not only get people to read, but who breathe such life into their characters and their characters' fictional world that the reader aches to be part of it and carries a bit of it with them long after the book has been shelved. It's a rare gift in this world, and one that I can only dream of possess.
