providence rock and roll yard sale

~the PROVIDENCE RECORD SHOW + ROCK & ROLL YARD SALE was born out of CHRIS and JENNIFER DALTRY wanting to occasionally organize and promote really cool music-oriented events in providence, rhode island. as big record collectors and dealers ourselves, our experience with with record shows has been mixed: as participants in the amazing WFMU record and cd fair in nyc, we have seen how it should be done - fun! so many record shows are in dingy badly-lit american legion halls and has-been hotels that reek of stale cigarette smoke and dust.... what about doing a show in a different, more cool space? how about a place where you can look at records while drinking a beer or a bloody mary? that is exactly what we have done! our shows are at AS220, a non-profit performance space in downtown providence, r.i. this space is home to live music, performance art, live-in art studio spaces, gallery spaces, a cafe, a bar, a taqueria, a darkroom and more. the PROVIDENCE RECORD SHOW + ROCK & ROLL YARD SALE is happy to call AS220 its home several times a year, and we have also been part of the most-excellent AS220 street festival - "FOO-FEST" - once a yearly all-day block party on a closed-off empire street in downtown providence, and we also helped organize and promote the 2008 debut PROVIDENCE INDIEARTS FESTIVAL which was a huge success and was held in BURNSIDE PARK in downtown providence. we have also brought our show on the road to Somerville, Mass - we have curated, organized and promoted THE SOMERVILLE ROCK & ROLL YARD SALE each september since 2007 and enjoy the partnership with the Somerville Arts Council and hope to continue working with them in the future. our events are also open to DIY artists and crafters . . . if you like vinyl, our events are just what the doctor ordered! if you like cd's, there are plenty to choose from. in fact, the past shows have featured lp's, 45's, 78's, compact discs, cassettes and even 8-tracks! there have also been vintage posters as well as new locally screen printed rock posters, t-shirts and even great vintage clothes and musical instruments. sound like fun? check it out! ~also, when we aren't putting on shows, we are in our shop in WAYLAND SQUARE in providence. we are WHAT CHEER ANTIQUES + VINTAGE and are located at 7 south angell street, providence, rhode island 02906. we are usually open wednesdays - sundays from noon - 5pm and we carry lots and lots of vinyl at our shop. you can reach us there at 401.861.4244 and you can also check out our store's myspace page at: www.myspace.com/what_cheer - I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
