About Me

Born in 1969, Bydgoszcz, Poland. Started his musical education in 1983 at Music College in Bydgoszcz (finished that school in 1988). Also a graduate in Music Academy of Katowice - Jazz and Popular Music Department (studied beetwen 1988 - 1992).
His teachers were: Janusz Mikolajczak, Stanislaw Proksa, Skip Hadden, Czeslaw "Maly" Bartkowski, Jacek Pelc, Piotr Biskupski.
Emarked on his musical career as a member of Jan "Ptaszyn" Wroblewski Quintet (1987). Later he played, among others, with guitarist Garrison Fewell, saxophonists Nicolas Simion, John Groos, Rick Margitza, pianists Joachim Mencel and Kuba Stankiewicz, trumpeter Piotr Wojtasik (the CD entitled "Lonely Town" was recognized as the 1995 Record of the Year by the readers of Jazz Forum Magazine), vocalists Mieczyslaw Szczesniak and Lora Szafran & The New Presentation Band, vibraphonist Karol Szymanowski, also, occasionally with trumpeter Tomasz Stanko, saxophonists Janusz Muniak and Michal Kulenty, pianists Krzysztof Herdzin (MJ was in the same class with him at Music College in Bygdoszcz) and Leszek Kulakowski, and many others.
Played on bunch of festivals around Poland and whole Europe - Jazz Jamboree (Warsaw), Jazz on the Odra (Wroclaw - PL), Istanbul Festival, (Turkey) and '89 Pori Jazz Festival (Finland), to list a few.
He was a teacher on Jazz Workshops in Pulawy, PL (every year - since 1991), 3 times on Leichinger Jazz Workshop during Forum Ost-West in Germany (1992, 1994, 1996), Music Workshops in Pultusk, PL (2002, 2003, 2004), International Music Workshop in Inowroclaw, PL (2003), Letni Jazzova Dilna - Praha 2006, 2007 (Czech Republic).
At present he teaches drums at Zielona Gora University (Poland), Institute of Culture and Music Arts and at Music College in Szczecin, PL.
At present, MJ performs regularly in various projects of Jan "Ptaszyn" Wroblewski, Adam Wendt Power Set, Funky Groove Band, Wojciech Niedziela Trio and Quartet, "Bright Ella's Memorial" with famous Polish singer Ewa Bem. In April/May 2007 he was on tour with Jan "Ptaszyn" Wroblewski Quartet in USA (jazz clubs: Blues Alley, Washington DC and Birdland, NYC).
