Herringbone All-Stars

About Me

Herringbone All Stars consists of friends and Studio Musicians I work w/ at my Studio (HerringboneRecords.com) over the last 20 yrs or so, but does not represent the work we do there. To hear songs we cut for Albums and Demos go to HerringboneRecords.comI have promised myself that I WILL record some of my own music at my own damn Studio this year. ;-) Except for "Short Term Love Affair" which I co-wrote w/ John Pippus, in 2007, and threw down quickly, (so we wouldn't forget it), everything else on this web site is from 8-20 yrs old. That's just no good.My home is full of art work; oils, pastels, watercolors, pen and ink, pencil, artist crayon, prints and lithographs, all done by my Parents, who were studying at the Art Students League in NYC, when I was born. My Mother went on to teach for many years and had paintings hanging at the United Nations, and Galleries and Corporate and Private collections around the country, Canada and Britain. (a couple of which are in the photo section of this site) They are both gone now, but their Art lives on. If we don't record music, it dissipates in time "...like tears...in rain...". It's time I get some decent recordings of my music as well.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: HerringboneRecords.com
Band Members: Me and anyone I can convince to record for me.
Influences: I grew up in Woodstock, NY from Jr H.S. thru college yrs. I've been giging all over the country since 1965 and recording since 1968. Growing up in Woodstock, thru the '60's and '70's, I was exposed to a very wide variety of musical styles. The local writers were Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Tim Hardin, Eric Anderson, Jackie Lomax, The Band (Garth Hudson used to give me albums as they came out), Todd Rundgren, Leslie West. The local sax player was David Sanborn. The local Harp player was Paul Butterfield. Local bands were Orleans (Still The One, Spring Fever), The Full Tilt Boogie Band (Janis Joplin's band for the Pearl album), Full Moon (Buzz Feiten, Neil Larson), The Fabulous Rhinestones (Kal David, Harvey Brooks), Stuff (Richard Tee,Eric Gale, Steve Gadd). (Kal David, Happy and Artie Traum, John Hall and Larry Hoppen, Buzz Feiten are the men who had the most influence on the developement of my personal style of guitar playing, along with John Plantania and David Lindleyand Dwayne Allman(esp. the album Push, Push). They're the ones who set the bar as to what it takes to be a pro. Always sing and play your ass off, Always. Write your own tunes. If you play a cover song, make your own version.) Local jazz players were Warren Bernhart -piano, Michael Mainieri -vibes, Jack Dejonette -drums. Acoustic music; Happy and Artie Traum, Billy Faire, Loudon Wainright III, Folks from the Jim Kweskin Jug Band; Geoff and Maria Muldar, Bill Keith and Jim Rooney. Also Amos Garrett. Lots more. Lots more. Not bad for a little Catskill Mountain town of only 3,500 people.
Sounds Like: Actually, I haven't written two songs that sound alike. My influences are quite varied.
Record Label: Herringbone Records
Type of Label: Indie
