The Mod Wolves

About Me

OUR LONG AND STORIED PAST: It all began in the fall or winter of 2005. Jake, Owen and Ken got together and started aimlessly playing notes in an area that at one point held a pool table and a mirrored ceiling. As it so happened, at about this time Sam began to take up the drums. (Coincidentally, Sam is Jake's older brother, and continues to be so up to this very day!) Our first real song was a lively ditty called "The Lauren Song." It was a ska song about a certain girl from Uxbridge with whom Ken was enraptured with at the time. Her name was Lauren. This random and aimless Friday night jamming continued on for some time, and featured inside jokes about racist samurai jails and mystery drinks. Then, out of nowhere, Alec appeared. The transition of Alec into the Mod Wolves (which, for a short time, was known as "The Friction Addiction"), was so natural and seamless, that I, the band's official biographer, cannot even recount the exact details of this event. But I digress. Style was refined, songs were written, and shittiness was reduced and eventually eliminated. Finally, having the collective guts to play a show, we competed in and won a talent show at our high school in November 2007. Since then we have been playing as often as possible, and writing songs weekly. In May 2008, we recorded our debut EP , "Sheep In Wolf's Clothing" with Dave J. Clark of The Rheostatics. In August 2008, we recorded a music video for our song “Southern Shores” with Ed's Video in nearby Guelph. We also found some real spiffy vests with wolves on them, if you can believe that. From September 08' til March '09, Owen and Alec left the country for missionary work in Africa and Central America. In the mean time, Sam, Jake and Ken soldiered on, writing new material, learning new instruments and playing to over a thousand people with the aid of guest singers and a horn section. We have also sold over 300 copies of our EP at shows and at local retailers. However, we are now reunited and ready to play lots of shows with brand new material! Thanks for reading!I guess it should also be noted that we're not ACTUALLY a zouk band, as cool as that would be.

Sounds Like: The music of the Mod Wolves has defied description since our incarnation. However, it was once described as "CAKE meets Frank Sinatra," and we think this does well to describe our chilled-out indie-pop with a touch of folk, usually focusing on love (or the lack thereof.)
