Influences: Danny Lee plays HPCustom Drums, ProMark Drumsticks, Sabian Cymbals, DW Pedals And Hardware, Gibralter Rack System.Danny Lee is currently in pre-production for his first CD since the untimely demise of the Buddhacrush. "unLimited Groove Collection" will be an instrumental album chopped full of musical peaks and valley's that reflect Danny's love of Rock, Contemporary Jazz, Psychodelic, and Funk, and Metal. Accompanying Danny will be various members of the Zealots and the Buddhacrush, as well as some prominent members of the Texas music family.Danny began his musical carreer playing in speed metal bands in the 80's, such as Kruesador, Squadryn, Basilisk, and Sedation. His presence became known when he joined Tomorrow in 1994, who later returned to their original name, the Zealots. His first show with the Zealots was opening for Rick Derringer to a crowd of 3,000. As a member of the Zealots, Danny opened for Santana, Jeff Beck, Scorpions, Alice Cooper, Foghat, King's X, Chlorine, and the above mentioned Rick Derringer. The Zealots also played with Tin Man, featuring a very young (and very amazing) Keith Carlock on drums (Steely Dan, Sting). The Zealots released "NOWHERE" in 1996. Danny was also playing with the Hillary Arwen Band at this time, opening for Ten Hands, Under the Sun, Rosebud, and Days of the New.The Zealots called it a day in 1998. While Tim McGlashen and Robert Woodrich went on to form the Buddhacrush, Danny did a brief stint as drum tech for Jerry Gaskill of King's X (Tapehead tour) and Galactic Cowboys (At The End Of The Day tour). Upon returning home to Houston, Danny passed time by playing with cover bands until he had the opportunity to join GEL. GEL, a modern rock buzz band along the lines of FILTER and Stabbing Westward, began to tour, opening for the Hunger, Better Than Ezra, Blue October, Mighty Joe Plum, Flickerstick, and opened the KLOL Rock Stop 2002 (side stage) featuring Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains), Tommy Lee (solo tour), and Nickleback. GEL was an amazing band that, unfortunately, became a victim of what could have been. Then an opportunity for Danny to rejoin his buddies presented itself, this time in the Buddhacrush. The Buddhacrush had become a powerhouse of a band. With Dave Mathews Band like finesse, and the horn section reminiscent of early Chicago, the Buddhacrush tore up the Texas and Louisiana scene. When it looked as if nothing could stop the Buddhacrush, the unthinkable happened in the death of frontman, Tim McGlashen. After a memorial show for Tim, and soon following, two memorial shows for Chris Whitley (Danny played with NDUGU), Danny took some time off to regroup and take a break. Now, Danny will finally begin to work on his solo project mentioned above. In 2008, he will start recording tracks for "unLimited Groove Collection" with producer Dan Yeaney. Danny is also keeping busy as a session drummer for various Houston recording studios. My early influences were bands such as KISS, Ozzy/Black Sabbath/DIO, Whitesnake, Iron Maiden, Trapeze, and Judas Priest. This later progressed to Metallica (the early years), Anthrax, Overkill, Exodus, Living Colour, Glenn Hughes, Peter Gabriel, Genesis (Abacab was amazing, the best album since The Wall from Pink Floyd), and Houston legends King's X, Helstar, Galactic Cowboys, and deadhorse. Was also following Ten Hands and Tin Man, both from Dallas area. From there, it was off to Infectious Grooves, Fates Warning, Agent Steel, Trouble, Pantera, Exhorder, Testament, and Mercyful Fate/King Diamond. In the late 90's I became a huge 311 fan. I am also a huge fan of the Beatles (my favorite band of all time), Steely Dan (2nd favorite), Pink Floyd, and, believe it or not, Tears for Fears. Roland Orzabal has one of the finest voices in pop music. 'Raul and the King's of Spain' from Tears for Fears is a musical masterpiece. I still listen to it frequently. My wife/manager, Mary Lee, got me to listen to David Sanborn's Pearls CD when I returned home from the King's X tour. David Sanborn soon came to Houston on a double bill with Spyro Gyra. Not only did David play an amazing show, but Spyro Gyra blew me away. That show changed my musical life. I've spent the last few years redefining my playing style from the thunderous double bass speed metal attack, to a far more progressive, jazz influenced, groove oriented style, ala Carter Beauford (Dave Mathews Band). I'm now a follower of drummers like Carter, Steve Smith (Vital Information), Joel Rosenblatt (Spyro Gyra), Richie Morales ( early Spyro Gyra), Will Calhoun (Living Colour), Carmine Appice, Vinny Appice (Sabbath/Dio), Mikkey Dee (Motorhead/King Diamond), Tim "Herb" Alexander (Primus),Terry Bozzio, Vinnie Colaiuta (Sting), and Stewart Copeland.
Sounds Like: Spyro Gyra, Acoustic Alchemy, Vital Information, Steely Dan, Dave Mathews Band, Sting, Tower of Power, Average White Band
