This song, The Long Haul, was written over ten years ago. I have recorded it over the years in mini-home studios. I have always wanted to do a "real" recording of the song and in November 2007 I had the chance to do so when a friend of mine, Chris "the Kid" Bailey, enrolled in sound engineering school in Nashville. He invited me up to use the studio at the school, SAE, and we spent a Saturday morning recording keys and vocals. I rented a Wurlitzer 200 electric piano for the session. Great sound. The last person to play this particular keyboard was Alicia Keys. That was an added vibe-raiser. A week later my friend Darren Brothers laid down some tasty slide guitar over the mix. What he put down really fit the mood of the song and I am forever grateful.Mo' sho' to come.............Then about 3 weeks later I drove back to Nashville to record a song at SAE that I had just written. I purchased a new Yamaha P-70 keyboard and Roland Amplifier at Guitar Center a few hours before the session. Once again the two Chrises (Bailey and Lloyd) were behind the board. Once again, Darren Brothers played some slide on the song. Once again, everyone did a great job. This song, Further Down the Road, just sorta came out over a couple weeks. I mulled over the melody in my head for the verse for awhile and then this cool chorus popped in. The song is still a baby, maybe needs a bridge, but for the most part I am happy with it.
