- I've lived in the very fun town of Austin, TX for 10 of the last 15 years, but realize now that I should consider moving back to Silicon Valley. I'm originally from Sunnyvale, CA, but still have a growing dislike of San Jose. My mother and first language are Dutch (from the Netherlands) and my father's father came from Norway. I travel to visit my family in California and in southern Washington (near Portland, OR) each at least once a year. Whenever practical, I usually prefer travelling by surface routes to flying over them; I enjoy camping out on road trips. Sometimes people get the impression that I'm weird, but usually only when they misunderstand me. I'm just very social and very, very, very smart. (For statisticians: that's one "very" for each standard deviation above the mean; see what I mean?) I enjoy being right, but also enjoy being accepted; I've learned to appreciate that "it's lonely at the top". Chuck Lorre's new TV sitcom The Big Bang Theory speaks to me. I like using technology socially.
I'm a well-rounded computer scientist and engineer who's been in the business longer than most. If you're looking for someone to develop your computer hardware and/or software project, ask me first: a little bit of my free advice early could save you big bucks down the road, and I often correct the work of other engineers.
