Glass Pear

Fall asleep in the sun and dream of the beautiful

About Me

One of my earliest memories of music is hearing my dad singing the Beatles' "Rocky Raccoon" and Dylan's "It's all over now, baby blue".
Many years after that my parents bought me and my three sisters an 8-track recorder, mic and keyboard. Jem wrote songs by herself and with my eldest sister Georgia and I composed stacks of truly awful songs that I thought were brilliant.
I loved mining musical history and my first listen to records such as Bowie's "Hunky Dory" and the Smiths' "The Queen is Dead" was revelatory to me. The fact that I felt exalted and sad every time I heard "Imagine" by John Lennon got me thinking about how beautiful and powerful songs can be.
When Jem started recording her debut album "Finally Woken" I was fortunate to write some tracks with her that made the cut. That helped me devote more time to writing and gradually I started to find my own voice with tracks like "Last day of your life" and "Wild Place".
By the luck of the gods, I was then introduced through my close friend and drummer Tasha Baylis to Tom Welham, a phenomenal guitarist and producer. All three of us began to work in London on my songs in early 2008, transforming them into something greater, reflecting our mutual love of alternative, melodic, popular and meaningful guitar music.
Why is it called "Glass Pear"?
Apparently the ancient Chinese believed that the pear was a symbol of immortality. (Pear trees live for a long time.) In Chinese the word li means both "pear" and "separation," and for this reason, tradition says that to avoid a separation, friends and lovers should not divide pears between themselves. Or, in other words, I thought, don't smash the glass pear.
Enjoy the music!
