OVERTHROW

About Me

Overthrow are a four-piece punk/rock/reggae band from Guildford in the UK. They formed in the summer of 2006 after all meeting each other through close friends. Their music is often compared to the likes of Sublime, RX Bandits, Failsafe and Brand New. August 2007 saw the band’s first release titled “The Withdrawal Of Reason” which is an 11-track album that was self recorded and produced by the band at their basement studio situated in Guildford, Surrey. Overthrow then did their first couple of tours the UK unleashing their energetic and passionate set, which they are now renowned for. 3 months were then spent writing for their next release and the band began to get much further into developing their own sound.
In 2008 Overthrow recorded their 6 track EP titled “So Much Power, So Little Time”. It was self-released on December 16th 2008. Giles Bennett and Fred Cardew - Smith, recorded it at Spiral Studios and Underworld Studios in Surrey. The EP was named “Demo Of The Month” in ‘Big Cheese Magazine’ and their track “Roll Of The Dice” was also included on the ‘Big Cheese Magazine’ “Best Of 2008” compilation CD alongside bands such as Slipknot, The Gaslight Anthem, Cancer Bats and more. Overthrow are currently busy touring the UK, and have plans to release a new 11-track album in spring 2010…

- “So Much Power, So Little Time” Review – (Demo Of The Month)
“Overthrow are sure to turn heads with this 6 track EP. Fans of Failsafe will love their fusion of power and melody (not to mention some tasty guitar licks) on the soaring ‘Take Me Away’ and ‘Roll Of The Dice’, while the political reggae punk of ‘Ode To The Innocent’ shows off their versatility. This confident release is set to see Overthrow become a powerful band…and fast!”
Big Cheese Magazine (March 2009 edition)
-“So Much Power, So Little Time” Review
“There’s enough on this record to secure longevity. There’s no filler, no messing around and not a single bad song here. I’ve long considered Overthrow to be one of the most talented UK bands of the moment. I’m pleased to report that ‘So Much Power, So Little Time’ has done absolutely nothing to change my mind.”

- General Review (December 08)
"If you enjoy the music of such bands as RX Bandits and Sublime then Overthrow’s sound could well be right up your street. Their music is relaxing to listen to, but at the same time also really quite energetic, and the lyrical content of the band’s tracks has a lot to offer. Overthrow are an excellent band. If you do get a chance to see the band live then make sure you expect an energetic, passion packed night to remember."

"This local, Guildford-based band fuse punk, rock and reggae to fantastic effect."

- General Review / Magazine Feature (December 08)
These Guildford based rockers are sure to get you moving with their mix of energetic rock and reggae groove. Another British band who prove the scene is far from dead.”
Big Cheese Magazine (December 2008 edition)
- Live Review
"Making the venue sound good was definitely achieved through this band. Breaking into immediately catchy songs, with a presence that attracted onlookers, they caught the attention of their peers easily. The sound of the band is similar to that of The Police, but a more rockier, and concise version. The songs are not out of place in a line-up of heavier music, and the pop rock and ska element makes them incredibly accessible. Influences from other genres are easy to spot, and although it is difficult for bands to defy being pigeonholed into one category, this band would be one of them. The vocals are clear and well harmonized, and their hooks are catchy and impressive. Overthrow-"more addictive than nicotine" it would seem. We really hope that they come back soon!"
