Artist HistoryAccess aka Nick Wright became interested in dance music at a young age through the influence of friends and family that were die hard followers of the evolving UK rave scene. Embracing the early sounds of Drum and Bass, Techno and Breakbeat Hardcore, Nick developed a true love of many different forms of dance music. Although he spent many years following the dance music scene, it wasn’t until the age of 16 that the musical passion burning inside him could be properly harnessed.Nick played his first club set in 1998. Even at this early stage, his talent was soon spotted and was given his first weekly residency at a local club night. After establishing himself in his hometown of Stroud, he was soon given a residency by newly established local promoters Ransom. He would perform on the decks at peak times alongside artists such as DJ Hype, Andy C, Zinc, Pascal, Grooverider, Ed Rush, Optical, Mickey Finn and Nicky Blackmarket in the first sixth months of his residency alone. As Ransom branched out to put on events in both Stroud and Swindon, he could be found supporting guests such as Fabio, Grooverider, Bad Company, Zinc, Bryan Gee, High Contrast and Addiction in one month alone. As he grew as an artist, work came in from other South West nights such as Incision (Cirencester), Sub Urban (Cheltenham), Flawless (Gloucester) and Live + Direct (Stroud). Nick soon found himself playing up and down the county alongside Fabio, Mampi Swift, Total Science, Baron, The Ratpack, Top Buzz, Escape, Drunken Masters and Donovan Smith. Alongside his regular local bookings he began to travel further to play in Leicester, Banbury, Leamington Spa and London. To complement his club bookings and in order to reach a wider audience, he also began playing regular dj sets on legal, pirate and internet radio stations such as Gloucester FM, Cam FM, Fantasy FM and Jungletrain.net.After spending many years playing for other promoters and learning the ropes, 2003 saw Nick establishing his own promotion company Bassix alongside friend and co promoter Rich. Based in Cheltenham and running monthly, Bassix has already featured artists such as Grooverider, Andy C, Hype, Zinc, Randall, Friction, Pendulum, MC Skibadee, MC Fearless and MC Eksman as well as many others. The creation of this night was based around a belief to push drum and bass in a positive direction in his home area. At the same time Nick has raised the profile of Bassix promotions to include sister event Bassix Stroud which is based in his home town. As this event picks up speed it is hoped that while it reflects the Bassix name it will also develop a unique style and vibe of its own. Check out the launch night coming soonNick has also recently raised his own profile as an artist by a close affiliation with friend and mentor Donovan Smith. Upon starting new record label Sensor Recordings, Donovan has brought him on board as Promotions Manager. Working closely with the team behind Sensor and Keynote at distribution company Load Media, Nick alongside friend and co promoter Jon has launched the Sensor label night which runs monthly in Cheltenham. Sensor is a representation of the deeper side of the music which Nick and Donovan are so enthusiastic about. Guests have already included Fabio, Bryan Gee and High Contrast. With Marcus Intalex, Calibre, Shy Fx, Stamina MC and MC DRS set to touch down in the next few months Nick is really looking forward to bringing quality music to Gloucestershire. Plans for Sensor are to tour all over the UK and abroad next year and with artists already on board such as Bryan Gee and Fabio as well as Donovan Smith and Access, only good things can come from this nationwide exposure.Radio work is another area that Nick hopes to delve more into this year and has been given a great start by hosting the Sound of Movement radio show with DJ Mosus on Ministry of Sound which is something that he hopes to do again in the future. As a regular guest on the Load Media show Nick has a good deal of experience in radio, which he plans to take to his own weekly drum and bass show on local Gloucestershire radio station Star FM. With this platform he hopes to reach a wider audience and turn more people onto the music that he feels so passionately about.Artist SummaryAccess mixes energetically. creatively and accurately drawing on a varied selection that features cuts from artists ranging across the full spectrum of drum and bass.
