The MUDBREAKERS

About Me

Some MUDBREAKERS History:
"Mudcrutch traveled cross-country to California in 1974 with drummer Randall Marsh and guitarist Danny Roberts and in early '75 with bass player Charlie Souza seeking fame and fortune, and they immediately signed a contract with the up-and-coming L.A. based Shelter Records label. As the first single on Shelter, "Depot Street" was released, the band lived in Leon Russell's recording studio for months recording an album of the early catalog of Tom Petty songs. However, being confined to the studio took its toll, and band members went their separate ways." An excerpt from Florida Music Hall of Fame - FLMusicHall.org
In late 2007:
When the Tom Petty Movie came out, "Runnin’ Down a Dream", it tweaked a greater interest in the old band and website using the original T.P. band name, Mudcrutch.com which started receiving posts of many blogs! On those blogs there was a particular former Mudcrutch member, a three year veteran of the Gainesville band, and the member who was air brushed out of a photo of Mudcrutch shown in the afore mentioned movie!
Danny Roberts became an avid blogger on Mudcrutch.com as an outlet for his need to reveal a higher truth in the matter and that is where the two founders of The MUDBREAKERS met and became friends, first online and then in Danny's initial phone call to Charlie late one October night! Never having known each other before as Charlie Souza was unknowingly at the time, Danny’s replacement in Mudcrutch way back when, Now it seems that their experience in rock history is their bond and each others music is their reward!
How we arrived at the name:
So yeah folks, Danny Roberts still has a van! It's not the same one he drove T.P. out to California in, but a new van, and he's puttin’ together another lil’ band called "The MUDBREAKERS". It’s got a nice ring to it, dontcha think? While in the first few phone conversations, Charlie humorusly suggested two names for this collaboration project, the first being "Heart Crutch" which the two have had literal use of over the years from veiwing from a distance, their old band mate makin' the big time, and the other name, The MUDBREAKERS, as Danny imediately exclaimed yes, that’s the name! Humorous, yet fitting and rare as two ships crossing paths at sea once more, the two veterans of the same 70's band at different times come together with their own brand of music!! We'll see you at The Polk Theatre and beyond!
