Redneck GReece Deluxe

About Me

Legend has it that Redneck GReece (aka known as Greg Reece by day) drifted out of the North Georgia mountains (the town of Ellijay to be exact) carrying nothing but a jug of corn liquor, a bag of songs and a vision. The corn liquor is long gone and the songs and the vision have gotten twisted around pretty often but Redneck GReece is still climbing the stage like he ain't got nowhere else to go.For a while he wandered around Athens singing his songs in the little honky tonks and the dives with his guitar his only friend. See, he always dreamed that someday he'd get hisself a big old band with a fiddle and a steel and singers and some blindingly Grande Ole Opry stage suits, and low and behold, his dream came true. And from that day to this Redneck and his deluxe band have regaled audiences throughout the Southern portions of these United States with performances that have combined their genuine swingin' hillbilly honky tonk music with a stage show that has occasionally incorporated tractors, motorcycles, and equestrian feats. Yes, that's right- equestrian feats. What is wrong with country music today? If you try to listen to the radio or watch one of them country TV stations they just got a lot of them pretty boys from Long Island in silly cowboy shirts, boots and hats singing about family values and love of country and the beauty of nature and the importance of good dental hygiene, for chrissakes. The songs that Redneck GReece writes and sings are keeping alive the old spirit and soul of country music. Hearkening back to Merle, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Hank, and even old Jimmie Rodgers, Redneck GReece sings about drink and lust and disappointment and hard times and infidelity: the very themes that used to be at the heart of country music. Of course, Redneck reevaluates these time tested themes with a decidedly modern twist.Redneck now has two CD recordings under his belt, the 1992 Good Eatin' and the 1994 Cold Hard Facts. And when I say 'under his belt' all you gotta do is listen to the tunes like "Puddin' Tane" and "Dyin' Quivers" on the first recording or "Mama was a Dancer at the Clermont Lounge" and "Don't Let Another Penis Come Between Us" on their second and you'll get the idea.BUT he's not just another below the belt novelty act. Redneck sings about folks who grew up and lived their lives out on the wrong side of the tracks with conviction, familiarity, affection and poker-faced humor.Redneck GReece's grail lies somewhere between the last call and the first light and if he never finds it (which is pretty likely) you can be sure that he and his deluxe band will be out there searching for it in all the honky tonks from the Carolina Piedmont to the Texas Plains. If you're lucky, your paths might cross sometime.
