About Me

This will be a short story because I made my living playing another instrument for the last 30 or so years but it's not as much about a beginning as it is the “unveiling” of a different future. (I've heard this often happens to a man in his fifties)Having always played guitar privately (since I was 15 years old) and mostly for compositional purposes, I had not pursued any performance aspects since sights were set to excel on my primary instrument, the trumpet. (Please see my "trumpet" page here on Myspace under "laweeyummusic")I believe each instrument lives a full life (or many lives) in a world specific for that instrument and invites its players into that world accordingly. *The Red Violin. So after living in the “trumpet world” for the duration and accomplishment of a full career, it was time to explore the “other life” I had already opened the door to all those years ago.I am completely self-taught though I did accost many other players through the years with seemingly endless questions about technique, style, etc. I still do in fact, but since the advent of instructional DVDs I guess the heat’s off them a little. My guitar choices are strictly acoustic- (nylon & steel string) -no electric, though I’ve owned many thinking it was a natural course. My technique is also self-taught which means it could possibly be painful for a trained player to watch, ALL compositions in my library have been realized on guitar though not necessarily FOR guitar, and interestingly enough, I seldom wrote for the trumpet and when I did, it was also realized on guitar. Thus, I am able to express my own compositions far better on guitar than I ever could on the horn.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: Not yet
Band Members: Wilmon plays; nylon & steel string acoustic guitars, trumpet, flugelhorn, EWI, & percussion (footstomps, handclaps, shotglass, bottle, shakers, etc) Dave Price plays flute on "Bourree'"
Influences: I have been referred to as "Impressionable", "impetuous", and just plain "easily pushed around" when it comes to what influences me. (I'm sure all the above was all meant in a "good" way?)-won't get into names here because there's WAY too many to list and who has time to read all that stuff? Besides I would hope those influences come out in what you hear on this page.
Sounds Like: We always hope we sound like ourselves but when I was younger I wanted to BE James Taylor more than anything. However, 20 years of jazz trumpet took me away from THAT fairy tale. (See myspace.com/LaweeyumMusic)
