While growing older, Redd experienced a unique connection to classic r&b and old school soul music. His later influences stemmed from artists such as Stevie Wonder,Marvin Gaye, Prince, The Gap Band, Ohio Players, D'Angelo, and many more...Redd has been filling his time recently doing session vocals for numerous artists and producers including The Underdogs (responsible for hits for artists such as Nsync, Backstreet Boys, Justin Timberlake, Rubin Studdard, and many more!). This creativity is complimented by the unparalleled music production of Malcom "Mal G" Harvest.Life...Love...Growth...The Natural Progression-----*CONTACT US*[email protected] Redd Soul Productions------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ --------Ok, heres some answers to questions that I get all of the time! If you have a question that is not addressed here, either e-mail it to me or post it on the message forum on my site! (www.reddsoul.com)---- Thanks, Redd.-------------------WHERE DID YOU GET THAT VOICE?-------------------------Well, I think that my mom and dad had something to do with this! My mom was an opera singer and voice teacher, and my father had a beautiful voice also and played the violin. I started singing in choirs and studying classical music at a very early age, and I feel that I learned the fundamental skills to sing correctly. Over the years, I have learned how to develop and fine tune my voice, and have created my own style from a mesh of the many influences and training that I have had. The thing that I learned many years ago is that your vocal cords are just muscles, like any other on your body, and they need to be conditioned and worked out regularly to perform at their best. I make sure that I sing everyday to stay on top of my game!--------------------------WHAT ARE YOUR MAJOR INFLUENCES?-------------------------There are many influences that have helped shape the singer and songwriter that I am today. These influences have come from many different genres and from different generations as well! The main artists are Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Prince, DAngelo, Michael Jackson, Lauren Hill, Erika Badu, Jill Scott, Alicia Keyes, The Gap Band, The Ohio Players, Brian Mcknight, Jodeci, Bill Withers, Donnie Hathaway, and all of the old Motown players to name a few There are many more in many different genres that I was introduced to by my siblings over the years that in one way or another have influenced my creativity enormously!! ----------------------- - ARE YOU REALLY THE YOUNGEST OF 12 CHILDREN?????--------------------------Yes, as my mom says Ill always be her baby! This is a little hard to swallow for some as I stand 65 and weigh 250+ lbs. I know, Im the biggest baby youve ever seen, right? Admittedly so, there were things that I had to sacrifice growing up in a house with so many siblings, but looking back, I wouldnt change anything! The experiences that I shared with my family over the years have made me into the man I am today. I learned valuable lessons along the way how to appreciate all you have, how to recognize how fortunate you really are, how to relate to different people with different personalities, ect. I know that I would be a different person today if I had not come from the family that I came from! Btw my mom raised all of these kids and then went back to college to get her Bachelors and Masters degree, and now works full time as a speech pathologist with Autistic children and stroke victims. This is a clear example of the kind of people that I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by growing up!!! (Yeah, Im a mommas boy so what!)----------------------DO YOU REALLY DO THIS ALL YOURSELF?-----------------------------For the most part, yes! I have a partner, Malcolm Harvest that produces most of my music Malcolm and I have worked together on a cd release for my old group called Higher Ground. He and I hooked up again about a year ago and started writing and recording for this album. With the exception of Malcolm, I have created and control all aspects of the Redd Soul project. This process has not been an easy one I have always worked a full time job to finance all aspects of this project, and am consistently managing my time to address promotion, marketing, and administrative duties, as well as allocating time to still be creative.------------------------ WHERE CAN I BUY YOUR CD????--------------------------------The cd is available for purchase online only at this time. You can select the link under the music tab on my site (www.reddsoul.com), or go directly to www.cdbaby.com/reddsoul . I have chosen to sell my cds through this particular site so that I can track my sales through Soundscan (an international sales tracking company). This site also enables me to digitally distribute my music through a variety of download websites such as iTunes, Msn Music, Napster, ect. -------------------------------- WHY DON'T YOU HAVE A RECORD DEAL??--------------------------------Ahhhh the age old question! I do not have a record deal right now because I have started my own independent record company. I am not opposed to a record deal but I am opposed to working as hard as I have to hand over all of the control and profits to someone else! Up until this point, I have had interested parties, but I really wanted to see how far I could push my project myself. The current technologies have enabled me to produce a quality product that now I am trying to share with the world. Of course, if I were to sign with a major label and get processed through their machine, Im sure that I would be very successful! It is more of a personal challenge to see how much noise I can make before partnering up with a major for licensing or distribution. Keep in mind I have recorded and financed my album I have planned the release and promotion I have created a marketing plan I have overseen every aspect of my project and release I have complete control of this grass roots campaign. I would be doing an injustice to myself if I did not see where my hard work can take me!----------------------WHO HAVE YOU WORKED WITH IN THE PAST???-------------------------------- As I said before, I was a part of a funk R&B group called Higher Ground. We had some success in releasing our cd under our own label and selling some units. We performed all over the west coast We even did a show at California State University at Northridge and headlined the show while the group that came on right before us was none other than the Black Eyed Peas! (much props to the Peas!!) I spent some time doing vocal sessions and radio jingles after leaving Higher Ground. I worked on projects for artists such as Nsync, Justin Timberlake, Back Street Boys, Luis Fonzi, and others. I did radio jingles for stations world wide including Hot 92 Jams in Los Angeles, 92.3 the Beat in New York, Capital FM in London, and many more!! I also had the benefit of working a bit on the Janet Jackson tour in 2004. I have worked with some pretty incredible people and many of the best and most talented musicians and vocalists that youve never heard of! Lets just say that I feel pretty damn fortunate to have the professional experience that I have!----------------------------DO YOU PLAY LIVE? WHERE?-------------------------------I wanted to concentrate on prepping the album before I started doing shows to promote my project. Now that the cd is ready and available, I will start doing some limited showcases throughout November and December, and many many more next year! Please check this sites calendar and sign up for the newsletter for more information!------------------------------WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS?------------------------------I love answering this question This is probably the most exciting question for me to think about!!! Ok, here it goes In 5 years, I see myself doing a lot of the same things that I am doing now, and a lot of things that Im not doing yet. Let me elaborate My reasoning for putting this project together is not for the reasons that most people think Sure, I love success Sure, I love attention but really it is quite simple what Im trying to accomplish. My goal over this next year is to sell 100,000 copies of my cd. I hope to accomplish this by marketing my music world wide and not solely in the United States. I have no visions of being the next American Idol. I do not care if I am ever recognized as a celebrity. I simply have driven myself to get as creative as possible, create a product that I can get behind (me), and share that product with the world. I dont need to make a gazillion trillion babillion dollars! I just want to make enough to support myself and my family. I want to put myself in a position where I can work on music full time. I want to stop working for other people and work for myself. I then want to take my experience and develop other peoples talent and make them successful. I want to use my production company to do things that benefit other people not just myself. I feel that I was given certain talents and blessings I know that there are many, many people in the world that do not have the blessings and opportunities that I have. I feel that it is my responsibility to share myself and my talents with the world and see if they can have a positive influence on those around me. Im not trying to preach here but I feel that I have a purpose to do thisand I feel fortunate that I can recognize this and go after it!-------------------------------
