About Me

Mysteriously formed under less than suspicious circumstances in a carpark at Knockanstockan independent music festival 2007, David Griffin, Mark O'Connor and Trevor Keogh after 3 months of relentless gigging and endless sessions found themselves fast becoming one of the hardest working bands in Dublin. It's been a busy 2008 for New Secret Weapon, March brought them to Liverpool and London on 'Bands on the Run' along with the Murder of Crows and Hassle Merchants, ending the tour on St. Patrick's Day in the Cuban bar in Camden Market, where New Secret Weapon "tested the building's structural integrity..."(Connected Magazine) before returning home to play numerous college shows, protest marches, urban festivals and guerilla gigs.. Having received 'Demo of the Month' in July's Connected magazine, the band kicked off the summer festival season at Life in Galway, then celebrated a year of success and good times with an explosive performance, headlining Knockanstockan '08 and kept the momentum going through both Solas in August and Electric Picnic in September. The lads have just returned from London where they played 4 epic shows in 3 days (12 Bar Club, Barfly, The Dublin Castle...) and with a busy schedule planned ahead with gigs, rehearsals, and upcoming studio work it's of little doubt the second year will be busier than the first...NEW SECRET WEAPON- Interesting Irish band with a progressive twisty turny kinda sound and an originally pitched vocal like Edgar Brougton meets Cobain or something- but the music is a blues related downhome math rock grunge affair. With jerk n quirk experimental Beefhearty leanings too...Cream meets Deus?? A de- heavied Blue Cheer? Or almost a prog Kings of Leon! Let’s settle on bloody good though! dublin castle londonNew Secret Weapon - new secret weapon
Dave Griffin will be known to many of you maggots as the Primal Jelly lynchpin and high priest of the Eamonn Doran's rock set. New Secret Weapon is just one of dozens of three-pieces that he's lended his talents to, but it looks like the one that will rule them all. The brace of songs on this demo channel all sorts of fascinating energies, reminding you of what makes rock music such a beautiful thing in the first place. On 'The Epic Of Gilgamesh' (an ancient Sumerian legend, apparently) you'll hear the East/West straddle of Jeff Buckley wedded to a fucked-up Beefheart bonkersness. 'Questions' is awash with Mike Patton perversity, beginning witha bass-baritone of near brownnote levels accompanying a beefy, bassy bounce before flipping over suddenly to reveal a hardcore punk underbelly. What am I on about? You'll just have to listen yerselves guys. The adventure begins at myspace.com/newsecretweapon Demo Of The month will be played on Icon, 8-10pm, on the last Tuesday of the month, on Phantom .. width="425" height="344" mspobj
