RICHARD HOMBRE PRICE

About Me

RICHARD “HOMBRE” PRICE (bass, slide resoguitar, guitar and cello) (Producer, Songwriter)Richard “Hombre” Price is a contemporary and 60'S Musician trained both classically and on the street. “Hombre”, as he is called, has played professionally in bands for about 45 years... Gigging, recording and producing music since 1963 and still playing today. Richard was born in Fort Myers, Florida in 1949. At age 4 his family moved to Richmond, Virginia through the 3rd grade and he started classical piano and organ lessons. His famiy moved to Sarasota, Florida going into the 4th grade at Alta Vista Elementary. His father built one of the early houses in Southgate and he went to Southside Elementary where he did 2 years of classical violin, wood recorder ensemble, boys choir and 2 more years of classical piano across the street. At Brookside Jr. High he started cello at 1rst chair and stayed there through high school and 1 year at Manatee Jr. College. He majored on piano and cello in college. At age 14 he bought his first cheap Cortez bass guitar at Jules pawn shop on main street in Sarasota. The early Sarasota bands were THE SECRETS, THE XTREMES, THE MISSING LINKS, THE CHORDAROYS, THE BITS OF DIFFERENCE, (with Jimmy O'neill), THE CRYSTAL PAIN, (with Greg Poulos, Ed Carver, Monty Young and Randy Hardeman), THE LOAD (with Larry “Rhino” Reinhardt, Ramone Sotolongo, and eventually Monty Young). THE CRYSTAL PAIN was the first or among the first psychedelic bands in the state of Florida. THE LOAD was a very loud power trio with Marshall amp stacks doing original material. Both bands did many shows in the area and the state. Both bands opened for many famous bands in the state and in Sarasota. THE SEEDS, VANILLA FUDGE, MOBY GRAPE (who richard played bass for one night), CANNED HEAT, SPIRIT, and too many more to mention. Early in his career, Richard Price was working in these bands playing a mixture of the American and British Rock, Blues, Soul, R&B and Pop of the era. THE LOAD was invited to move to Jacksonville, Florida to live and play music with THE SECOND COMING (Dickey Betts, Barry Oakley, Reese Wynans, John Meeks & Dale Betts's new band). They had a large hippie following and the San Francisco scene had hit the state hard. The two bands lived communally in a green house and a gray house a block apart. They played together always to bring in the money and started free Sunday jams in the parks and sympathetic clubs. Duane Allman, & Jai Johnny Johnson visited and joined these jams often from Muscle Shoals, where Jerry Wexler was recording the famous soul tracks at the time. The jams were a creative explosion that birthed what was later called Southern Rock by the press. Dickey Betts and Barry Oakley pulled out of THE SECOND COMING(1rst version) to help form the ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND. Reese Wynans and drummer John Meeks joined THE LOAD members and kept the name THE SECOND COMING(2nd version). THE SECOND COMING and THE ALLMAN BROTHERS band played all over Florida and both cut albums before the Allmans went to Macon. Richard played countless hours with Duane and Gregg Allman along with Dickey Betts, Barry Oakley, Jai Johnny Johnson, and Butch Trucks and many more. The rest is history. THE SECOND COMING record deal fell apart and the masters were forsaken for 26 years. Richard has them now and is working to put them out. Richard eventually did gospel sessions in Tampa and later moved to Nashville, TN. There he began a long tour and studio career with artists like VASSAR CLEMENTS,THE DAVE PERKINS BAND, THE OUTLAWS, JAMES TALLEY, DOUG DILLARD & GINGER BOATWRIGHT, HOMESICK JAMES,THE TIM CARROLL BAND, MICHAEL FRACASSO, SONNEY BURGESS, BILLY JOE SHAVER, THE NORTH MISSISSIPPI ALLSTARS, SUE FOLEY, KASEY CHAMBERS, LUCINDA WILLIAMS, PAUL REDDICK and others. He also helped create the GERRY GROOM records and played with MICK TAYLOR during that time. The number of famous world class musicians Richard has played, recorded or jammed with is too long to print here. Producing also began with the artist HAYSEED in Nashville and a project with Reese Wynans and Dave Perkins called ULTRA FIX, intense punk edge blues. After the ”Carwheels On A Gravel Road” two and a half year tour, Richard moved back to Sarasota, his home. Richard was working with his teenage friend ROCK BOTTOM when he first got back and Richard started working on a new band slowly called BLUE SWAMP on the side. Hombre was producing and touring from Sarasota for 9 years. He has performed with THE ACCELERATORS, BO DIDDLEY, SANDY ATKINSON, HAYSEED, THE RASTUS KAIN BAND, CONSTANT VIGIL and other artists in the state at local venues. He is now on the new release PISTOL CITY HOLINESS by Dave Perkins again with Reese Wynans. Richard has and always will play Blues. Richard has happily married a wonderful woman he has known since the middle 60's Mrs. Kathy Pritt Price and is continually on to the next project. Come say hi. [email protected] 941-302-1044
