DJ PRUESS

About Me

DJ Pruess landed his very first DJ job in 1986 and started his career in the clubs of Costa Blanca and, evetually, he went to to work in clubs all over Spain: El Faisan / Comix / Heho / La Sirena / Olimpus / Papillon / Star Garden / Punto Luna Sol / Bunker / La Hacienda, etc From 1988 to 1991 Pruess was managing the Benidorm branch office of Madrilenian label Quality Records. During these three years he became familiar with the Spanish music industry. In 1992, in cooperation with a partner, he started the infamous techno club LA NASSA, which lasted for 6 months (nowadays people do actually still remember this magic club with affection). After these first years in this business, he decided to become more involded in the creation of music. In a small studio located in Javea, DJ Pruess produces his first record with a DJ friend: PCA PROBLEMS – I Need You (this piece of vynil reaches the first position of AFYVE in 1993), which was followed by another number-one hit, a remake of John Lennon’s classic “Imagine”. By 1995 PCA PROBLEMS had become a popular act with more than 150 live appearances and a total of 5 records. The songs by PCA PROBLEMS appear on more than 12 Spanish and foreign compilations. Capitalizing on his artistic experience, Pruess decides to go a step further and starts a pop group together with his British friend Chris Alavoine and relies on Jose Luis Macias as a producer, who was also responsible for the 3 latest records by PCA PROBLEMS. After rehearsing for various moths and several musician auditions, a band is born and six months later the first album “PEOPLE” under the moniker of ROOM 101 is recorded and released both on CD as well as on tape by Catalan label EDIVOX. Thanks to this first promising record, the band manages to play in lots of clubs as well as on TV channel Canal 9. In 1998 Felipe Rodríguez becomes aware of this combo and starts to manage them. In 1999, the band signs for MUXXIC (Grupo Prisa) and, under the pseudonym of ELEVEN SOMETIMES, they record their second album "Hello & Say Goodbye", which proves very succesful and becomes the best-selling Spanish album sung in English in 2000. According to the ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE, one of the most important and relevant records of the year in Spain. Unfortunately, some months before the publication of this album, manager Felipe Rodríguez passes away and the group is not able to find a substitute. Without their manager and because of the lacking supoort from the recording industry, the band disbands in a friendly manner in 2001. After hitting the scene for many years, Pruess resorts to a turning point in his career and sets up his own recording studio and produces artists like DJ SUSSO (Space Ibiza), Pakito Baeza, etc. In 2001, Pruess and Macias and their new friend Alex decide that it is high time for them to take a new artistic path, which at the same time should allow them to keep control of the whole process without depending from third parties. DEEP BASS RECORDS is born, its aim is to release own records as well as interesting productions by other artists. A new project called THE DOCTORS sees the light of the day: the band comprises four musicians, who aim at creating something new within the electronic music field. Pruess, who was already busy producing for a German label based in Dortmund (MAWA), takes care of the filming of the concert by THE CHIMICAL BROTHERS (BIZARRE Festival) during the POPKOMM 2002 in Cologne. In cooperation with this label, Deep Bass produces a series of DVDs. The Doctors also record their first vynil 12” with Marco Repetto (former member of Grauzone) as a producer in Switzerland. Upon returing from Switzerland, Pruess produces a new group – Iberix – and launches them on his label with “Deep & Long“, a record that generates good sales and puts Deep Bass Records on the dance music map. In the meantime, the Doctors tour all over Spain and promote their music through a concert broadcat by Radio 3 TELEVISION ESPAÑOLA. Six moths later their first 12” “The Doctors Rainforest” is released. THE DOCTORS succeed in playing at the MONCOFABEAT, where Pruess meets Ximo Amat y Elena, who will eventually manage the group. In addition to this, THE DOCTORS also play at the SONAR festival in 2004. During the very same year THE DOCTORS start selling their music in the USA through independent distributors. Their productions also appear on other labels in other countries: Switzerland (K-Tel and Pino Music), Germany (Mawa and Absolute Records) and the UK (Kinky Malinki Records). Besides, the well-known producer Nick Chatelaine becomes very interested in the band: he produces a track for them and remixes another one, which is eventually released on Goanche Recordings (Barcelona). In 2005, Deep Bass Records signs a distribution deal in the United States and THE DOCTORS realease a new 12” “Grupo 125 Positivo”, which turns out to be a favourite record by a lot of DJ’s. In 2006, they appear on the bills of IVAM and ELECTROSPLASH and release a new project The Doctors & The Chatelain Brothers “The Poet House EP”, where ,after a very long time, Pruess uses again his voice, this time in German inspired the German techno groups of the 90’s. In 2007, DJ Pruess releases his first solo project (Dj Pruess - Love EP), followed by an album called Dj Pruess - the Vinyl Set (DJ Set). During the very same year Pruess meets Rene Planet, a German DJ who lives in Costa Blanca. Together they form a new combo, The UnderGroover, who experiment with electro music. The band plays in Luxemburg. In 2008, they release The UnderGroovers – Sexy on Deep Bass Records. DJ Pruess spins in Oporto, Ibiza as well as Denia and produces a series of tracks for compilation of the infamous Zensa beach club. For this new production he is supported by a new friend, Moritz, who throws commercial light on this project. 2009 sees the publication of a new EP (Dj Pruess & Moritz / Trompet Beat), which features the original mix as well as mixes by Mike Hoska, Dj Viana and Dlobo
