About Me

Music is what gets me through life. I may not be able to sing well most of the time or play an instrument, but I love music. And I can't pigeonhole myself to only listen to one genre. I proudly admit to liking the occasional bubblegum pop (it takes me back to happy high school times) as well as the classics of rock (the stuff I actually listened to in high school when I thought the bubblegum pop was evil trash).
Kylie Minogue is my idol. Her music kept me from losing my grip in college. And her strength through all she's been through inspires me.
As a product of the '80s, I love the '80s - the music especially. And then there's British music. A large part of my music collection comes from the UK, from bubblegum pop (Girls Aloud, Spice Girls, Take That) to '80s (Duran Duran, my favorite band of all time, pre-Timbaland aka Satan, of course) to Britpop (Oasis) to newer rock (Hard-Fi, Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs) and of course the classics (Beatles, Led Zeppelin). I just think the Brits do it best.
My love of music has influenced and nurtured my other love - writing. Mostly I write fiction based on my daydreams and hopes for the future. And yes, it almost always involves a musician or two that I have a crush on at the time. I also just write for the sake of writing - random observations, twisted commentary, a daily litany of complaints (I do complain quite a bit, I admit it) and lists. I suffer from list-itis. But I am who I am, and I make no apologies for that. Take me as I am, or go away. I don't need emotional fuckwittage, thank you.

I'd like to meet:

Musicians, music lovers, '80s nuts, writers, Kylie Minogue, anyone who is passionate about something.

Music:

Random stuff, mostly British. The major obsessions: Duran Duran, Kylie Minogue, Eva Cassidy, Robbie Williams, Hard-Fi, Oasis, Kaiser Chiefs, Arctic Monkeys, Go-Go's, Bangles, '80s Madonna, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Take That, cheesy '90s pop, cheesy current British pop (Sugababes, Girls Aloud), most British "indie" bands, Britpop, British classic rock

Movies:

If it was from the '80s and/or starred the Brat Pack, chances are I like it. The best? The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Fast Times at Ridgemont High... Non '80s flicks: Moulin Rouge, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, Clueless, Legally Blonde, American Beauty, American Pie...I'm sure there's more that I'm forgetting.

Television:

Give me old sitcoms over "reality" crap any day. Friends was my fave. I don't watch much TV anymore. I like Family Guy though.

Books:

I love books. Sophie Kinsella, Jenny Colgan, Gemma Halliday, most Harlequin Blaze books, Harry Potter, music history books, Janet Evanovich, Charlaine Harris, MaryJanice Davidson, and the list goes on...

Heroes:

I think Ive got it!

One of the reasons why Michael Johns attracted my attention on "Idol"... He reminds me of my high school obsession, Duran Duran's John Taylor!...

Thought for the day/night

Could a flock of flamingos kill a person? How? This is the kind of thing we talk about at work. Lineups will make you crazy.

there is no escape...

I think once you fall into the lameness abyss that makes up a large portion of my music taste, there is no escape. At least, no permanent escape. In high school, I was anti-boy band and manufactured ...

Apparently I don’t have to be drunk to sing karaoke...

I made my karaoke debut tonight at a bowling alley. And the weird thing is, I was completely sober (unless it’s possible to get drunk from coffee). Shy, cowardly moi actually got up there all by...

I suffer from list-itis

For lack of any other blog ideas (because I don’t want to ramble about my boring life), I’m posting yet another list. I say I’m an ’80s baby but I haven’t done nearly eno...

Time to baffle the masses!

Or at least make my friends groan in disgust/bemusement over my music taste. Here is a sample of my Best & Worst of 2007!   The "mathematical" formula I developed to determine my final Top 10...

fine, I admit it...

One of my presents underneath the tree this morning was Britney's new album. And I love it! Once I finally acknowledged my soft spot for bubblegum pop, I swear I became a much happier person. I am th...
