Unable to escape the psychological bombardment of media and public opinion echoing the depressing news that he was finished and would never box again, Vinny never lost hope, never gave in and never gave up.
Shortly after being released from the hospital under strict doctor's orders and wearing a movement restriction halo (for his neck) that was screwed right into his skull, Vinny did the unthinkable.
He immediately returned to the gym against the advice of everyone around him. With little more going for him than a true belief in himself, he became in inspiration to many as he rebuilt his broken body lifing weights wearing that halo to get back the strength he had lost after three months in bed.
Just one year, but with a lot of gym work later, he won a ten round decision at Foxwoods Casino's first major professional boxing match in Mashantucket, Conn.
Despite other misfortune along the way, Vinny prevailed against the odds and retired a five-time world champion after an impressive 50 wins in a 60 fight career.
Always quick with a charismatic smile, Vinny "Paz" is more than happy to speak with fans and sign autographs. A major motion picture is in the works on Paz' life, and he has been perfecting his own acting skills. He guest starred on an episode of Police Academy and has taken part in four feature films, including one with Sylvester Stallone. Other films are win the works including "Thunder Doyle" where he plays a main character.
Vinny Paz continues to be a true to life "comeback kid" and inspiration for many from all walks of life. Currently Vinny goes out of his way to inspire hope in the handicapped, disabled or impoverished to never give up, never give in, and never lose hope. His career of overcoming tremendous odds and undeserved misfortune stands as a shining example to many. Although there is no world belt for it, He has truly become the people's champion.
