Hello there and welcome. My name is Irina Alexandroevna. Or if you prefer in Russian: Княжна Ирина Александровна Романова. I am the only daughter of Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich of Russia and Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna of Russia. As if you didn't get enough names thrown at you *laughs* I am also the only niece of Tsar Nicholas II, and the wife of the wealthy Prince Felix Yussupov, one of the men who murdered the starets Grigori Rasputin in 1916.
Before my marriage took place on February 22, 1914, I was considered one of the most eligible women in Imperial Russia. My family had spent long periods living in the south of France beginning in about 1906 due to my father's political disagreements with the Tsar.[1] My father was also carrying on an affair with a woman in the south of France and often asked Xenia for a divorce, which she refused to grant him. Xenia also enjoyed extramarital affairs. My parents tried to hide their unhappy marriage from their seven children. As a young girl, I was often called Iréne, the French version of my name, or Irene, the English version. My mother sometimes nicknamed me "Baby Rina." Part of my family was heavily influenced by the French and the English, spoke French better than Russian and often used the foreign versions of their first names when referring to each other.
During the Russian Revolution of 1917, the only reason I managed to stay free of problems was because when I married Felix, I renounced any and all rights I had to the throne. It simply did not intrest me, I much rather prefered love. To some, it is safe to say Felix kept me alive. After we left Russia for France, we found that we were much luckier then many of our fellow countrymen. For a time Felix and I ran a fashion house called Irfe, named after the first two letters of our first names, Irina and Felix. I would model some of the dresses others and ourselves at the firm created.
