The name was brought in by the drummer, Ralph Guyot. The bands first members were, Greg Davis, Ralph Guyot & Paul Ruiz. Shortly after, the band shortened the name to what it is today, "FASTLANE". During the first year they went through several singers, (both male and female), guitarists & bass players. Eventually they settled into a four piece with members, Greg Davis, Paul Ruiz, Ralph Guyot & Bob Haley. After a little over a year with us Bob (bassman) Haley decided to go explore other venues. We tried several other bass players until we finally found Smokin Smokky. Next big change came after 4 years of playing together when Greg Davis pulled away from the rest of the band. We then went to Smokkys' past and tried out his past guitarist from a previous band, Reiner Gruebel. As of now the group consists of the following members: Reiner Gruebel (rhythm guitar-vocals), Ralph Guyot (drums-vocals), Paul Ruiz (lead guitar-vocals) & Smokky (bass guitar-vocals). Their music is an assortment of classic rock, rock, country rock & blues. Their arrangements consists of songs from the sixties on up. Their sound can be described as true rock n roll from the heart!XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXMember Bios':Reiner Gruebel (aka Big Rye): Got his first guitar in Germany at the age of 16. Came to California in 1979 and mostly just jammed around. Started a band called " Big Rye " and played all over San Diego for about 8 years. Big Rye plays a Fender Strat, Gibson SG61 and uses a Fender Hot Rod Deville to bring you his sweet sounds. Influences are Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, and Santana.XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXRalph Guyot (aka-badfingers): Started playing drums at the age of 10 in the Monterey area. His first band was "Foam Blues". Played with them from 1966-1967. After that he played all around the Monterey and San Francisco area with a band called, " Cannon". While with Cannon they opened shows for groups such as, Quick Silver Messenger Service, Blue Cheer, It's A Beautiful Day & Moby Grape. Ralph moved to the San Diego area in 1972. He basically quit the music industry for over 10 years, then got back into the music scene only to find out that he didn't feel the same way towards the music that was happening at the time. Finally after years of inactivity the music bug bit him hard and once again he's ready to rock!!! Although Ralph basically plays drums and sings in the band, he also plays several other instruments and has written several songs which in the future will also be performed by FASTLANE. Influences are Ginger Baker (Cream), Mitch Mitchel (Jimi Hendrix Experience) and Buddy Rich. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXPaul Ruiz (aka-mo money): Picked up his first guitar at 8 years of age. Played mostly in the LA circuit. In the 70's he was with a group called "Head Keepers". They played locally but never pursued to the point of their full potential. After years of hard work and other interests he finally awakened to his other love, music. Paul has an awesome natural feel to his guitar playing and you can sense that in his expressions when he plays. His influences are the legendary Eric Clapton and Carlos Santana.XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXSmokky (aka smokin smokky): Smokky has been playing the bass since the age of 18. He has played the music southern California scene for over 20 years and has worked in the local studios as a session musician. Has worked with England Dan, John Ford Coley and Seals and Croft. He brings a solid bass line and punchy rhythm. Together with Ralph’s drumming and Reiners rhythm playing, gives Fastlane a hard driving and full rhythm section, making the band sound like there are more then four members. His influences are Jamie Jameson, Jaco Pastora, Victor Wootan, Timothy B. Schmidt.
