About Me
Growing up in the same neighborhood and attending the same schools, being the best of friends, John Anthony and I learned to play the guitar. Then while at K. J. (Kids Jail) Clark we met Danny Frederick, who became our drummer. Among other names, we started out as The Yomen, playing CYO dances for the Catholic Church, Our Lady of Fatima in Prichard, Al. being our first gig. After that we played on the roof top of the projection booth at the Air Show drive-in theater in Chickasaw, Al. Was actually aired on the radio, (W.U.N.I.) we thought we had made it to the Big Time) Changing names and new members til John and I met up with Terry Kastroff, who owned a real microphone and had a car, became our new drummer. Then it was John Anthony, Terry, Don Stewart and myself . Terry and the Pirates was formed. We played at Johnnson's Lake in Eight Mile, AL. dressed as pirates, we wore Mardi Gras pirate costumes (Watch out Paul Revere and the Raiders) those coats were so hot in the summertime, not to mention getting shocked every time we got to close to the pool.John Anthony, invited me to go to Macon, Ga. and become a band member. Of course I said yes... But got homesick, after a few days and back to Mobile I came.Lowell Brown, Roger Glass, Dicky Brown, Butch Wagner and myself formed Whistle Britches. Then I left to pursue a day job, being replaced by Eddie Terrell. Working at the Alabama Drydocks as an outside machinist until I was asked to join Farm, a well established band, later to be renamed Jackson Street Blues Band that played at Johnny's Smoke House, along with Jett Broughton, Frank Cobb, David Mann, Charlie Harrison & Duane Beale . Not staying very long because I then started my apprenticeship at the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 119 which lasted five years in training to be a journeyman pipefitter, which I did, And did so for twenty five years until ended by an on the job accident that broke my left hand and wrist severly leaving me in rehab for over two years. By the Grace of God I finally got back the movement I needed in my wrist so I could play the guitar again. Starting over at 40 I went back to school at Southeast College of Technology and earned an Associates Degree, which landed me a job at Polysurveying of Mobile as an autocad draftman. I stayed there for nine years before buying into a cleaning franchise chain as owner of my own business. I work at night which prevents any band situation for now, but I still like to jam with my pals when I can.Thanks...George Mills, David Flott, Kenny Mathews, James Andreasen for letting me join you guys at Bayfest 2007...................Mrs. O'Leary's Cow.Also without Mike Coley, who is an excellent harp player, plus one of my best friends...we wouldn't have had a place to practice...thanks again
