The only fundamental rule for me is to just be yourself. Let your freak-flag fly, and if someone doesn't get you, move on."I love romance. I'm a sucker for it. I love love so much. I'm crazy for it. I'm nutty for it … I ask myself, Do I feel like I hold the bowl of love and go out there in the universe, whether with this person or alone, and have that shield and glow that's incredible? Or do you feel kind of depressive and self-conscious and like you're walking on eggshells?"

Drew Barrymore has been a successful actress for more than two decades. Her father, John Drew Barrymore Jr., her grandfather, John Barrymore Sr., and her great uncle, Lionel Barrymore, made up the pillars of a famed British acting family gone Hollywood. There was little doubt that Drew would follow in her ancestor's thespian footsteps, and the enivitable arrived early. Before she was even a year old, Drew had already starred in a commercial for Puppy Choice dog food. By seven she boasted a resume heaped with commercial credits and movie appearances.
Drew made her feature film debut in the 1980 film Altered States, but it was her role of the alien loving Gertie in 1982's E.T. that sent her career into the stratsophere. In just weeks, Barrymore came to be known as the sweetest little pig-tailed thing on the screen since Shirley Temple. Everything should have been coming up roses, but sadly, due to lack of good parental guidance Drew was sucked into an adult world filled with drugs and alcohol. At an age when most girls were playing with Barbie and having sleepovers, Drew found herself at the tender age of eleven, in a drug rehab program. However, by fourteen she had cleaned up and written the autobiography, "Little Girl Lost."
Through it all, Drew continued to make films, but like many child actors, Drew had a hard time making the transistion from child star, to teen star, to adult star. A number of lesser known movies followed after E.T. and Irreconcilable Differences, but Drew was not to be stopped. For almost ten years she continued working on her career and slowly the transistion was complete; audiences were once again sitting up and taking notice of Drew Barrymore. In a very funny skit she performed on Saturday Night Live, Drew even joked about the ups and downs of her career in a hilarious musical number. The young, and always charming lady, had emerged from her troubled childhood with humor intact.
Expanding her creative horizons, Barrymore along with business partner Nancy Juvonen, established the production company, Flower Films. The company has a two-year, first-look production deal with Fox 2000 Pictures.
A dedicated philanthropist, Barrymore often donates her time and resources to a number of charities. She is serving as national spokesperson for the non-profit Female Health Foundation, helping to draw attention to the foundation’s campaign to increase awareness of the growing need for safe-sex education and condom use. Barrymore is also actively involved in volunteering and raising funds for the Wildlife Waystation, which rescues and offers sanctuary to animals, big and small, from around the world.
