About Me

Jasper Barendregt
Drummer / Audio Engineer / Artwork Designer
Born in Den Haag, 5 October 1988, I made my first steps into musicianship during my piano lessons around the age of ten years old. At the start of 2001 I began pursuing my biggest passion ever, by taking drum lessons at Musicstation (Musicon) in Den Haag. There I enthusiastically followed lessons by David Bakker, Ernst van Ee, Olaf Fase, Matthijs de Ridder and Rob Kramer.
During my high school years, I had the possibility to play in various cover bands, and later pursuing my creative ambitions, along with like-minded friends, playing, jamming and performing in and around the Netherlands later resulting in the progressive metal band 'Fraction'.
After successfully finishing my high school at the beginning of 2006, i had the option of taking a full-time course in audio engineering at the SAE institute in Rotterdam. (And in December 2007 I earned my Audio Engineering Diploma).
Near the end of 2006 after (second) auditions throughout the Netherlands, I got a position as a student at the Fontys Rockacademy in Tilburg, and am now playing, jamming and performing with all kinds of style-orientated bands, as well as studying under some great (drum-)teachers such as René Creemers and Hans van den Hurk.
Currently I have the feeling I'm dedicated more than ever to my vision on drumming. As a kid I mostly admired a powerful, solid, fast and strong way of playing. But later on (also because of my interest in allot of musical aspects found besides drumming) i started focussing on a way of playing, with regard to clarity, definition, openness, flexibility and essential groove. At the moment I'm finding these aspects in the world of Jazz, New-Orleans, Fusion, Technical Metal, and Experimental orientated music. Scroll through the list on the left to get a feeling of what I'm talking about.
Like I'm trying to point out; I get my inspiration from allot of different points in life. Though I'm not a spiritual person, I believe the best way to create music is to open up your eyes to allot of things and gather the inspiration that grabs your musical personality. Listen to allot of different music and try to catch the energy it "radiates" even though sometimes the positive things don't hit you right away.
By trying to bend, reform, and absorb the various aspects found in my wide range of sources, I believe I'm on my way to transform my fun and inspiration through drumming, to a higher level.
Thanks for reading my short biography here. I believe that there's allot of people that share my point of view, so feel free to drop me a line, I would be happy to check out your music...
Keep creating!
-Jasper
