Da Mavis: He Who Sees Beyond Vision

If you do not love, you will not fulfill your purpose in life. (Mavisus)

About Me

J.M.J.Hello! My name is Matthew; people call me Matt, Mateo, and Mavis (a nickname that has stuck since high school that derives its origins from a drunken episode of slurred speech in a miserably failed attempt to pronounce my name repeatedly).I have a bachelor's degree in mass communication with a focus on electronic media; I also have two minors: one in history and one in religious studies. I graduated cum laude and from the honors program at St.Xavier University, my Alma Mater, where I wrote for the university newspaper and worked as a DJ and producer for WXAV, 88.3 FM. I have a strong interest in intellectual and academic pursuits; I am working on my master's degree in written communication and I will then obtain a doctorate in mystic theology. I am also the producer of a few video and radio documentaries. I plan on teaching at the university level both communication and religion, as well as Yoga, Tai Chi Cuan, and Shotokhan Karate.I enjoy writing very much; whether poetry, lyrics, or pontification of theology, I love it! Its my passion and life-sustenance.I am especially interested in the study of history, religion, the Bible, Church Fathers and Mothers, Church doctors, scholastic philosophy, Greek philosophy, eastern philosophy, and mysticism.I was on the debate team and like to engage in positive, uplifting, and intellectual conversation.I also sing and used to be in a couple bands.I am a former short-term missionary to Cambodia and plan on returning there for the opus dei.I was a student of French and Ecclesiastical Latin.I attend the traditional Tridentine Rite Mass in Latin and that has been my preferred Eucharistic source since my conversion to Catholicism.I have been blessed with a great number of close friends who are wonderful people.I got alot to give and alot of love to offer to those who are able to recieve, hopefully especially for a special unknown individual in the future who I can commit my life to.I am devoted to perpetual transformation of soul, continual transcendance to union with Being.I am a former actor and model.Everyday is a joyous celebration of life for me!Others have described me as "a wonderful guy" and "a really good person," compassionate, and loving. People are instinctively attracted to me, seeing the compassion and lovingkindness in my eyes. But, to the evil and cowardly, to the vicious and cruel, I am a threat and feared by them, appearing terrible and mean.I have a blazing stare that pierces to the soul.I like to keep a positive attitude, to think positively, to project love, gratitude, and positive energy, to turn the negative into a positive, and to spend my time with wonderful, positive influences. I like to refrain from wasting time and energy on negative behavior, thinking, speaking, and people. I don't let anything keep me down and accept hardship as a path to peace and as a powerful part of loving Providence, resigned trustingly to the will of God for my life.By the grace of God, I strive against and have conquered: nicotine addiction, alcohol dependencey, melancholy, manic depression, bipolarity, sexual compulsion, repressed homosexuality, fear of abandonment, fear of success, negative self-image, and religious fundamentalism and fanatacism. I have sucessfully used suferring and pain to project myself into a higher state of consciousness of the Divine.I live the life of what Trappist monk, Thomas Merton, called the "hidden contemplative." I have a fast-paced, urban lifestyle, I have taken no religious vows, I wear no habit, and am not celibate; however, I still practice monastic penance, sacrifice, fasting, austerity, evangelical poverty, mortification of the flesh, and immolation of the false-self, renunciation, and denial. And I plan on living by a monastic rule.Everyday, I offer spiritual sacrifices: everything to my All! My prayer, works, joys, and sufferings in union with all sacrifices ever offered and with the all holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Whether I'm praying, working, drinking, making love, eating, laughing, crying, or studying, all to him! I pray that I will love as God loves and to be a blessing everyday for all I encounter. That I will be the presence of Christ in the world and for those that I associate with. That my selfish desires will be destroyed for the sake of serving humanity and the cause for holiness, sanctification of the world, Justice, peace on earth, the establishment of the Kingdom of God in every heart, and to do my part in bringing about the final reign of Christ in the center of every soul!I rejoice at the oppurtunities found in this life to serve and love and am eternally grateful to the Absolute. I plan on making my every thought, word, and action a meditation and sacrifice as a means to final sanctification and return to my Source and to help others in this all-meaningful task, all else is useless and vanity. That I will achieve final union of likeness with God.I am an eternal servant of God (or at least make an attempt to be), to offer my every breath as a pleasure for my Lord, my King, my Father, my Mother, my friend, and lover! That all will be only for his glory, that all I do may increase my love for him! I wish to be conformed to his image alone and to be with him and only him! My every thought is of him and I am in love!I have been a devotee of the Rosary since I was a teenager and this has so far been an unending source of spiritual knowledge that has far exceeded anything I have learned from books, school, lectures, or other natural, rational means. I spend a great deal of time in silence and solitude. I pray the Liturgy of the Hours, I chant (both Gregorian and Eastern forms) I adore Christ in the Eucharist, study Kabbalah, and I practice Zen meditation and Hatha Yoga.As a part of the spiritual path of the warrior, I practice Shotokhan Karate and Tai Chi Cuan, as well as being a former student of Muy Thai Kickboxing and Judo. The practice of martial arts has been a surprising and unexpected contributor to peace in my soul and with others and the world. As a result, I desire no conflict and am abhorrent to violence. I am an absolute opponent of all forms of violence, war, abortion, capital punishment, etc. as well as all forms of injustice and discrimination including racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, opression of the poor, religious discrimination, and institutional structures of sin that result in spiritual violence and supression of freedom and dignity. I pray that I will all my life practice "the art of peace" and do my job to "guide our feet in the way of peace" and that I will never harm another creature, that I will love others as myself and not distinguish between friends and enemies. My will is for all creatures to have happiness, peace, joy, and freedom and to free themselves from the cycle of suffering and Karma and from the hell of ignorance, desire, craving, and hostility that cause all misery!Vivat Jesus! Ad majorem gloriam Dei, Deus meus et omnia!I dedicate this page to and invoke the intercession of: Our Lady of Guadalupe, St.Matthew the Apostle, St.Michael the Archangel, St.John the Apostle, St.Francis Xavier, St.Paul, St.Lucy, St.Francis de Sales, St.Augustine of Hippo, St.Thomas Aquinas, and St.John of the Cross.I offer this page as on offering for the pleasure of my Lord Jesus Christ/Krishna![YE OLDE "ABOUT ME" SECTIONI am twenty-two years old and drink beer full-time. I have a bachelor of arts in mass communications with a focus on electronic media. I plan on obtaining a master's degree and then a doctorate. I have a wide variety of interests, including heavy metal, history, chain smoking, eating chicken wings, and martial arts. I like to party alot. A good friend of mine has dubbed me "the Napoleon Bonaparte of Heavy Metal." I have a strong interest in intellectual pursuits and a very boring style of writing that reads like a history textbook and I would advise you to stop reading this paragraph before you fall asleep. I have a layered personality and complexity of character that shallow people fail to appreciate. I am also full of hot air and kuss like a sailor; I don't know why. I'm fairly prude. Some know me as a major asshole; to others, I am the "sweetest guy on earth." You decide.I spend my time going to concerts, practicing martial arts, working out, listening to music, and touching myself while thinking of you. I hate TV. And the Internet. But I like to be tied up and whipped. Sometimes I pretend I'm an old Chinese man. I am a man of contradictions: the Orthodox Paradox. A conservative rebel. Conservatives think I'm way too far left and liberals think I'm a right-wing nut. I can be very outspoken, loud, and obnoxious, and other times, shy and withdrawn. Sometimes humble, sometimes an arrogant prick. Got a dry, biting, and sarcastic sense of humor. I get along with all different types of people . Some people call me Matt; some, Mavis; in some regions, I am known as the Great Muvaso. No matter what, I will always be...that nice creepy guy who loves everyone and has a heart of gold.]
