memellow

I love being on the road. Travelling without time and day, driving through foreign landscapes and countries. I listen to the languages of music, soak up the different smells in me like a sponge, its light and its colours. Let me be inspired by its life, reflect myself in its picture. Time stands still, becomes less important. My aim is often the sea, with its clear air, filled with the aroma of salt. In its vastness and its force, there is a mystery, a hidden key. The sea fascinates me since I can think and since I can think, my strongest impressions and perceptions flourished, being on the road. I am a nomad soul.
memellow describes, what travelling causes in me - it makes me mellow. It relaxes me and lets me mature like a good fruit, which can then be consumed by you in form of a good song…:-)
Founded in 2002, memellow has developed from a pure jazz-sestet to a band, which stylistically, doesn’t want to have borders and in which different musical ideas and preferences are of influence.
Elements of jazz are being combined with spoken words and soul ingredients. From a latindownbeat, we change to a housegroove, in order to touch down on a rocky crossover song.
With Miron Landreau, we have found a travelling soul mate, who jumps over boundaries with his multilingual poetry and who takes up the thought of being on the road with his spoken words. He tells of his impressions in French, Spanish and English, always with a smile and a tear in the eyes.
Jeru Ilfu responds with her souly voice to his thoughts and the band enters this dialogue with improvisations and an underlay of tight grooves.
The whole band is connected through their love of travelling and being on the road, which brings along open ears and hearts and therefore a joy of music and all its different styles. We want to leave boundaries behind us and discover new things, also in ourselves. And take you with us on this journey.
