Bio "When the music bounces, the lyrics must bounce". This is lyricist Morten Holm-Nielsen's golden rule when he writes lyrics to a melody from one of his co-writers. And his ability to set the big words to the big notes is indeed one of his trademarks which also include powerful imagery, inventive rhymes, and a touch of humour.
Currently, he is co-writing with top shelf writers and producers from London, San Fransisco, Los Angeles and Copenhagen, and a number of recording artists have recorded his lyrics.
Writing credits include lyrics for Danish pop star Simone's 1 platinum album, lyrics for Danish popstar Jakob Sveistrup, lyrics for The Deskjockeys' debut single "Christmas Party" which was released worldwide and voted Best Christmas Song 2006 by www.MyMusic.dk, and lyrics for the official Danish football song for the Euro 2004 which reached 2 on the sales chart and received a gold record.
In addition, he has written Danish lyrics for the Walt Disney films Meet The Robinsons, Chicken Little, Home On The Range, Brother Bear, Monsters Inc, A Bug's Life and Tarzan and the Dreamworks films Shrek I, II, III and Spirit - Stallion of the Cimarron.
His writing career began at the University of Copenhagen where he co-wrote music and lyrics for a number of musical comedies while taking a master’s degree in English literature with a closing thesis on the American Musical Theatre - so it’s no surprise that he calls Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim a major influence.
Many of his co-writers consider him a workhorse who often repeats that “the most important part of a songwriter’s body is the butt, because you have to sit on it until the work is done†- and he readily admits that he can be almost neurotic about getting the rhyme right.
When he’s not busy writing he enjoys preparing gourmet food for his friends and family, who speak highly of his pheasant breast with walnut sauce and baked vegetables. In order to stay in shape he exercises 3-4 times a week, running, cycling or playing football with his mates.
