Now, after spending several months in the studio, Inakin are ready to showcase their new material including tracks from their forthcoming EP in a series of hotly anticipated shows.
No doubt, with their obvious charm and abundance of talent, this is just the beginning.
Josh Barker – Lead Vocals & Guitar
Josh was born and raised in Sydney. He began his musical training at seven and grew up listening to the likes of the The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Stevie Wonder. His mum took him to see his first concert at the age of 11 and that was it, thanks to Bon Jovi Josh has been hooked on all things musical from that day on.
By the time he was 14 he had his first band, a 4 piece heavy rock group that rehearsed in his mum and dad’s garage. Shortly thereafter he discovered a love for song writing and started playing his original music at venues and pubs when he was only 15. Of course, as a minor, he had to be accompanied by an adult and to this day, his dad Chris, is still his biggest supporter and is always in the audience when Inakin take to the stage.
Josh attributes his current style to the fusion of his childhood influences with more contemporary favourites such as Incubus, John Mayer and Green Day.
Shane ‘Buddha’ Edwards – Lead Guitar
Playing guitar and writing songs from the age of 13, Shane first collaborated with Josh when he was 16. They have been working together ever since.
As well as being one of Sydney’s most outstanding guitarists Shane owns Electric Sun Recording Studio’s and has a strong passion for music and sound production.
He toured Australia as Primary Front of House Engineer for Town Hall Steps on the Avril Lavigne Tour 2005, and was then asked to Engineer for Hilary Duff, but was unable to do so when Inakin won the International band competition “Global Battle of the Bandsâ€. So, instead of hanging with Hillary, it was off to London to fly the flag for Aussie Rock with the rest of the band.
In addition to his considerable talent with a guitar, Shane is also one of Inakin’s primary songwriters.
When not on stage, you can find Shane at Eastern Creek raceway racing his motorcycle or boating on Sydney Harbour.
Rick Kolanovic - Bass
Rick started playing guitar at the age of 10, picking it up from his dad. He launched his first band Mourning George early on in high school, with himself on guitar and lead vocals. By the time Rick was 15 the band were playing festivals supporting the likes Sunk Loto, Lo Tel, Grinspoon, Testeagles and many more. He quickly realized that things were getting a little too serious for the “not so serious band“.
He began spending a lot of time recording and filling in on bass for various artists around Sydney as well as playing in a new band called Blunt. Seeking diverse musical experience Rick left for Europe in search of more.
Spending a lot of time with musician friends and touring with a multitude of pop groups Rick found himself playing capacity venues with musicians who were at the top of their game. He returned home briefly, before picking up a tour to the US.
When he finally came home again Rick spent many months working on solo material before hooking up to write with producer Johnny Franjo. As much as he loved the writing Rick found himself missing the live scene. At just the right the time he was invited to spend 8 months on the road with Sydney Rock band Modular Lounge, playing sold out shows with the Whitlam’s, Magic Dirt and a number of other leading Aussie bands.
Towards the end of December last year Rick ran into Lea Goodrem at a show and she began to tell him about a special band she was looking after called Inakin, and how they needed a bass player. After listening to the music Rick was hooked, in his own words. “I decided to put my hand up for the job and never looked backâ€
Aaron Carruthers - Drums & Backing vocals
Aaron started playing drums when he was seven and has been tormenting his neighbours ever since. Originally from Queensland he spent much of his youth playing around the Brisbane area where he soon developed a name for himself as a gifted drummer.
In 2001 Aaron moved to London to broaden his musical horizons and whilst there played with various bands and song writers. In 2003 Aaron returned to Australia and relocated to Sydney where he started studying with well known session drummer Lloyd G.
Aaron prides himself on being a song drummer with his most prevalent influences coming from drummers such as Steve Jordan (John Mayer) John Densmore (The Doors) and Phil Rudd (ACDC).
On holidays in Fiji 18 months ago Aaron met Josh and Shane and subsequently joined Inakin. Since then boys have been inseparable.
