I am here for Friends

About Me

Apparently (according to my friends) I insert a caveat of some nature at the beginning of nearly everything I say. Thus, be warned.
In an effort to prevent this profile from growing dull, I have determined to change it from time to time. This is one of those times.
I am a graduate student in early American history at William and Mary, a member of the 7th Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line, the official papist wench and head of the women's interpretation program of the Lobsterback Society, a swing dancer, and a Big Band singer. In addition, I am a very complex person, so much so that my college roommate often says she discovered after a year of sharing a dorm with me that everything she thought she understood about me was wrong. I don't mean to have an aura of mystery, but it seems I sometimes do. Regardless, I consider myself well worth getting to know. My particular passions are history, Jane Austen, dance, music, and ice cream. There are very few things that will compel me to argue, as I find conflict extremely stressful, but if you are determined to either invite witty sallies or provoke outright indignation, you need only to disagree with me on the following:
~the quality and relevance of Jane Austen's work, and in particular the merits of Henry Tilney and Catherine Morland of Northanger Abbey
~the role of personal character in government and leadership
~the intelligence and open-mindedness of people with strong religious convictions
~the inherent value of being human
~the best ice cream parlors in the world
I'm only willing to compromise on this last issue, following a careful study of competing claims.
"You deserve a longer letter than this; but it is my unhappy fate seldom to treat people so well as they deserve." ~Jane Austen

I'd like to meet:

Jane Austen, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James II, and a variety of other dead people. However, as they're not available at the moment, I suppose I will have to settle for the living.

My Blog

My education-oriented mind, my job, and general updates

So, is it sad that I, while reading Jamie's quiz, thought the question about cheating meant cheating on a test?  And then puzzled over what could possibly be meant by "would you take someone back...
