Shoot Out the Lights

About Me

We are Shoot Out the Lights. Until very recently, we were The Engine Room. That name, much to our consternation, is already taken by at least one band far more up and far more coming than we are at the moment. In the interest of avoiding legal action, and in the hope of allaying any future confusion (for the record, no one in this band is involved with “Nip/Tuck” in any capacity; we’ve never even seen it), we abandon our original moniker. The name Shoot Out the Lights conjures up images of hell-raising (for who but the supremely intoxicated are likely to open fire on a light fixture), with a hint of melancholy – themes as inextricably bound up with the traditions of rock ‘n’ roll as girls or cars. Lest you think us a bunch of drunks or sad sacks, however, we would direct you to the mp3s above; contained therein you will find as buoyant and coherent a sensibility as you are likely to find in a working band today. It’s also the name of a song and an album by Richard & Linda Thompson, an inspiration we are more than happy to acknowledge. We plan to tour and record some more this summer. Check our myspace for details as they develop.– SOtLShoot Out the Lights @ The Rock and Roll Hotel-7/19/08-Part 1Shoot Out the Lights @ The Rock and Roll Hotel-7/19/08-Part 2Shoot Out the Lights @ the Black Cat-7/30/07
