I am here for Friends

About Me

Music was my first love... then I met Sherri. Like music, she is breathtaking and intoxicating. I've loved many things, people and much to do with music in my lifetime, but nothing compares to her. She is life... She is breath... She is madness... She is guilt... She is pleasure... She is frustration... She is beauty... She is intrigue... She is... my wife, Sherri. I'm a singer, writer, percussionist/programmer, bassist, guitarist & keyboardist. What's next, Saxophone? No... My current project is Voodoo Dolly. I also spent all of 2007 singing lead, playing synthesizers & guitar with the Phoenix area cover band, Retro-Active! I've played as a permanent member of 2 other cover bands, in the beautiful cities of San Diego and Seattle and did fill-ins along the way with friends like The Metro & Rockit Science. I've experienced a lot in my first 20 years of playing in bands... you know, the usual stuff, like countless platinum albums, autograph signings, near fatal tour bus accidents, expensive sports cars and supermodels... oh wait... right decade, wrong band... it's more like, ringing ears from ridiculously loud clubs, the occasional screaming girl that wanted to take me home with her, ego induced disagreements with band members, over the top wardrobe changes between sets, buying and selling music gear far too often, but most of all... meeting some very cool people and making some great friends. Whether I'll play another 20 years, well... we'll see. As for those cool people and friends... thanks for the memories. It was an absolute pleasure to meet you, know you and share the stage or studio with you. I'm currently having a blast in Voodoo Dolly. Forever the "groove guy", I'm exploring computer recording, programming drums again for the first time in years, playing bass, synth & even writing lyrics to a few of our songs. My writing partner, Dewell, listens, lets it sink in and if it talks to him, turns out some amazing guitar. A voice and beat have now joined, so we're finally complete! This project is still very young but it's all about collaboration and live performance, and so far the feeling is strong that we'll complete this and shop it to labels. More than anything though, we just want to create a great CD that we're proud of, play the material live and share our music with the world, whether it's purchased in CD form in the shops or handed out for free at our shows, or even streaming online or downloading for a buck a song! Dude... watch out for the run-on sentences! No matter what, I'm just thrilled to be working with some very talented and extremely cool people now that Voodoo Dolly expanded from a 2-man project to a full-blown band.So comfortably 30-something (pushing 40, really, but fighting it all the way...) why do I still play? In short, I get off on it. As a Leo, I enjoy the attention. I live for it, really. Call it what you will, but other Leo entertainers include Joe Elliott, Mick Jaggar, Madonna and plenty of others who at 10 to 20 years beyond me in age and experience, still get off on it! Whether it was belting out modern rock hits in my cover bands or creating the complete rhythm section for my original projects... without music I wouldn't be the same.Just remember.. if music means as much to you, I say, "play it like you feel it". You can never take the music out of the musician. NEVER!Some day though, once the body says no more, yet the heart and mind say play on, I'll sit behind a grand piano, leaving a stack of synthetic electronica behind, for the real deal. Maybe by then I'll be good enough to go solo! Music was my first true love, at least until I met Sherri. Her support and willingness to put up with my drama after meeting me over 20 years ago, is unparalleled. She truly is my connection to Heaven. She is not only the most beautiful woman I've ever loved, but the most grounded and intelligent person I know. Although I hold a reputable position with my company, I tend to drift through moments of fantasy here and there. It's good while it lasts, but Sherri brings me back to reality, although sometimes against my will. Who needs drugs when you have dreams and somebody amazing to live them with! We have 2 gorgeous daughters that have their own bold spirit and share my passion for music. Lord help their mother! They do share her passion for fashion. Some day still, when the girls are grown and independent, it'll be a weeks worth of bikinis, board shorts and a boat, baby! We’ll be cruising the Gulf of Mexico, stopping here & there for the best out of the way, off the beaten path places for food, drinks & night life. By day, it’ll be undisturbed coves & inlets, white sand beaches & private time! No script or set list... No 5AM alarm or clock to punch at work... I'll take a fish taco and a Pacifico please! The next morning, after partying it up, we'll probably wonder how the hell we made it back to the boat!!! Then we’ll get a call on the satellite phone from one of the girls and be missing the hell out of them. Especially when one says she's getting married! Our little family is amazing and although we don’t make bank, we give them everything we can. We may not be able to send them to a university, but we’ll make sure they get some advanced education or vocational training beyond public school. Kylie has wonderful fashion sense and great taste in general. Her designs and sketches are beyond her age and she wants to open her own “rock & roll” boutique. Kelsie wants to be a hair stylist and have a corner of her sister’s boutique, creating outrageous styles for the stage and screen… CUTE!!! So although I dream of the future & look back fondly on my past, I’m so comfortable living for the now.
