I am here for Friends

About Me

I'm a SAHM to 4 kids ages 10yo-3yo and wife to Christopher. We both graduated from Bishop Ahr High School and we had dated for a short time in my senior year. We reconnected as friends--eventually grew into a hubby-wife duo. During my last semester in FIT (just two months short of graduating), my bio-clock was tic tocking away. I realized that it was being a mom that called louder to me than the fashion world.
Since 2000, we've been Radically Unschooling and it's been an amazing journey to say the least!! Unschooling for us is more than an education--it's a way to live. Living without schooling is pritty SWEEEET!!
I spend some of my free time fantasizing about digital cameras and lenses I can't afford. I loooove taking pictures and have been doing it since I was 13yo. If I'm not reading off of a monitor or some type of screen, I'm reading fiction. I can't bother with technical things or factual information lol--bleh. That's not entirely true--I just prefer to get lost in fiction!!
Currently, I'm learning about tropical fish due to the fact that our fishes surprised me with 4 new babies. I'm also so far out of the music-scene it's embarrassing. I'm open to suggestions so feel free to send me some great tunage!! I love traveling and exploring--if there is anything to miss about the "pre-kid" era, it's that. I've been fortunate enough to have traveled abroad. Have spent time in: Indonesia, Mexico, Curacao, Bahamas, England, Scottland, France, Italy, Holland, and Germany.
In the past, my previous jobs were personal shopper, retail management, sales, and child-care. Various jobs I had considered: archeology, interior design, bartending, acting/theater, travel agent, commericial truck driver, events coordinator, kids party planner, graphic design, dominatrix, therapist/psychoanalyst, professional eater, chef, midwife/doula, natural birthing instructor, dojo owner, and in an alternative universe--singing, guitar, anything musical really. Unfortunately, in this universe, I've been cursed with having no rhythm and dammit--I can't keep the frikkin beat!! Chris has also clued me into the fact that I'm tone deaf to boot!!
I've always had eye-related issues. When I was a kid, I had eye surgery to correct amblyopia (lazy eye) which straightend the appearance of my eyes for at least 2 decades. After being pregnant with my 2nd son, the amblyopic eye (i doubt that's a real term) started up again and has left me with feelings of insecurity that causes me to shy away from social situations. You'll catch me covering my wonky eye (it's uncomfortable sometimes especially if the weather is overcast) or having an extended wink lol!! I do feel like a freak but I guess that ties into my ME-ness anyway lol!! I've been considering eye muscle repair surgery but it's not guaranteed to work. Wow. TMI sorry lol!!
Eeeh yeah although I go through phases of fat acceptance--I do go through periods of feeling pretty shitty about my post-pregnancy pudge. While my eye and body size have changed since the old days, I think my personality is pretty much the same. I'm quirky, introverted, shy but not shy, think it's ok to make fun of myself, child-like yet maternal, gift of gab, can't type or write short passages--always novellas, bad grammar, run on sentences, sometimes creative, often imaginative, always remember the past & like keeping connections to it, i remember details that people like to forget, tendency towards being a horde, collect strange or uncommon toys, hard to get in touch with by phone, dont answer phones or return calls (that's a post-kidlet thing), love vibrant colors when in the mood but always seem drawn to the darkness. There. I'll probably change this bit 200x too lol!!

Movies:

Movies I've seen recently:
Dan In Real Life-This was warm and funny but I didn't connect with the "All American Family Tradition" thing going on throughout.
Golden Compass-I'm not an athiest but really enjoyed this movie. I liked the idea of the many universes and life existing on different dimensions. Wish I had my own demon to walk beside me!! Also, I do actually believe that children are born with certain innate knowledge/abilities/connections to other "realms" and it's often washed out of them. So that's another reason why I connected with this film.
There Will Be Blood-Ok. I enjoyed the movie although I found some scenes to be quite brutal. In the end--I just felt like...Ok, so what was the point? What I took from it is that Daniel Day-Lewis's character was a pyschopath and that most people in power with tons of money are...physcopaths.
The Darjeeling Limited. LOVED the cast. A little slow in parts but added to the overall feel of the flick. Loved the relationships, the scenery, and the dialogue. Also enjoyed the Short Film, Hotel Chevalier, which is a prequel to the film.
Fell asleep watching: Atonement, Blood Diamond, National Treasure: Book of Secrets. Probably not due to the quality of the movie but more the state I was in lol!!

Television:

House
Top Chef
Hell's Kitchen
Daily Show
Colbert Report
And the Christopher Nigro Weekly Real News Update (not exactly on TV, he's my IRL alternative newscaster!)
