Bill Hullett

About Me

Bill Hullett was born in Galveston, Texas and raised in California. In 1978, Bill made the move to Nashville to become a session musician for the recording industry. For 2 years, Bill was a member of TNN's Music City Tonight band and played for the likes of Dolly Parton, Chet Atkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis. Bill's guitar playing can be heard on a variety of artists' albums from Trisha Yearwood, Emmylou Harris and Pam Tillis to Merle Haggard, Joe Diffie and Alabama. BAND MEMBERS: On this album, other guitar players accompany Bill, musicians such as Sonny Landreth, Steve Nathan, Milton Sledge and Glen Worf. Horns were arranged and led by Buddy Skipper. Other horn players include: Denis Lolee, George Tidwell and Barry Green."Well, here's a killer instrumental album featuring a veteran Nashville studio picker. Not only does Hullett put on a nasty country-bend symposium on "Alligator Gar," but he does it on a 1950 Fender Nocaster. Ditto for a killer cover of the Sam and Dave chestnut "When Something is Wrong with My Baby." But it's the playing, not the guitars, that make this album stand out. It's not hard to see why Bill would be wanted in studios. His versatility and innate sense of taste are obvious after one listen. And, the chops...for acoustic and electric highlights check out the title cut. It's a killer CD with guests like Sonny Landreth on slide..." by John Heidt, Vintage Guitar (April 1998)"Known as "Nashville's Best Kept Secret," Bill has a solo CD... featuring 12 instrumental numbers that cover a nice spectrum: bluesy, ballads, rhythm and blues and rockin', twangin' country. All of the tracks feature solid backing and two of them ("Alligator Gar" and "Walking Papers") feature slidemeister Sonny Landreth. My personal favorite numbers include "Slide-O-Rama" (a vintage Rickenbacker lapsteel is up front on this one and the sound is a real contrast to the Tele sound that comes later), "One By One" (a delicate composition featuring a vintage Martin D-21), "Street Racer" (a rockin' country number) and "Two-Lane Blacktop" (a great growlin' Tele sound on this medium-tempo get-in-your-car-and-drive tune)..." by Jim Hilmar, Vintage Guitar (March 1998)Header Banner Made with MyBannerMaker.com!
