Chapter 1. About IOI... (pronounced eye-oh-eye) Kel and I share what I consider to be an unusual hobby... For years we have both enjoyed listening to ambient electronic music and playing our own improvised "performances" over it. I have spent countless hours playing guitar over Brian Eno CD's all the while thinking about how cool it would be to play in a band that approached music this way. So when we finally parked our last project we decided that our next trick would be to try to make this strange idea an even stranger reality. IOI was born.
Chapter 2. Reinventing yourself is hard...The difference between composing on a computer and composing in a more traditional band format is strking. A good band works at an exhilarating pace. Ideas become music in seconds. Not so in the computer music world, awkward interfaces, unreliable hardware and the unforgiving glow of a monitor can make or break the creative process. A process that is quite fragile in an impatient person like me. For all it's flaws the wide spread introduction of such technology into music has been inspiring and liberating. If this band is about anything it is about using these tools to journey far away from our roots all the while respecting and remembering the places we came from.
Chapter 3. The current iteration of IOI is easily the strongest ever. Lars has rejoined the fold and we have a very talented new lead singer named Nadia Hope.
