The Lullabys

About Me

The Lullabys are duo Gav Roberts and Brett Alexander Robertson. We formed at the end of 2008, meeting by chance in Brett’s second home – caffe Nero – in Bury St. Edmunds. Since then we’ve played regularly at gigs, open mics and private parties in Suffolk and Essex, building up a good, loyal fan base. You know who you are!
We’ve played live on several local radio shows and our debut album, ‘The Long Goodbye’ is due out in August, available on iTunes, amazonmp3 and other download sites.
The tunes you hear on myspace are the original mixes Gav made on his home studio. They’ve since been mastered by Brett ready for release. More demo’s are available on our homepage and if you become a fan you’ll receive a monthly newsletter, telling you what we’ve been up to.
When we play live, we strip it right back to basics; Gav on guitar and vocals and Brett on congas and backing vocals. We’re sometimes joined on stage by my bro, Jules, who helped write some of the songs and Paula and Rob (sax and harmonica). In the autumn we’ll be in the studio again, making an ‘unplugged’ album which will include several new songs and feature other guest musicians.

Band Members: Me, Gav Roberts - lead vocals, rhythm guitar. Brett Alexander Robertson - drums and percussion. I am sometimes joined by my bro, Jules Roberts - bass, guitars, keys Guests - Paula and Rob (sax and harmonica).
Influences:As kids I was influenced by my folks repeatedly playing the old vinyls of Abba, Simon and Garfunkel, country stuff like Glen Campbell as well as 60's pop. By my teens me and Jules got heavily into The Beatles and delighted in collecting all their albums chronologically, from the early Beatlemania days through the psychedelic days of Revolver and Sgt. Pepper, right up to Let It Be. In our imaginations we took the journey with them. Through the 80's we loved Madness, The Specials, Tears for Fears, The Teardrop Explodes and the like. It was only later did we acknowledge the genius of The Smiths and Elvis Costello. The 'Madchester' scene of the early 90's was a huge influence on me, as were Blur, The Boo Radleys, Suede and The Lemonheads. Then came Nirvana. Smells Like Teen Spirit was one of those songs that changes everything! Still my fav of all time! More recently I've lost countless hours listening to Coldplay, David Gray, James Blunt, The Killers, Keane, The Kings of Leon, Embrace, Badly Drawn Boy, Radiohead, Muse, Grandaddy and anything else with good melody and emotion; something that touches me on a heartfelt level. Over the last few months the 'Once' CD has been played repeatedly (from the movie of the same name). GET IT NOW!
Sounds Like: A mixture of: The Beatles Grandaddy The Lemonheads Coldplay James Blunt
