Began DJing in local youth club (I was rubbish at pool and table tennis!) also started to promote my own events at the youth club and other youth clubs around Wolverhampton. One monthly event entitled “FUTURE†attracted over 400 youths every month from all over the city.
This was also the time when Pirate Radio was a new thing in Wolverhampton and I gained a Saturday morning show on Frontline radio 106.3fm
At the end of 1990 was awarded Young DJ of the year by the Wolverhampton youth Services and the City Council1992-1995
At the start of 1992 I joined a Sound System by the name of Rebel International, and improved my DJ skills buy playing at many various events such as Carnivals, Parties, Weddings, Christenings, and much more all over the UK.
In June 1993 I left Frontline Radio and joined Skyline radio 94.2fm were I did what you called the grave yard shift 1am till when you felt to tired to play anymore. This gave me the freedom to play all aspects of black music right the way through the night. In order to gain maximum exposure I went and did the grave yard shift every other night sometimes staying on air till 8 sometimes 9am in the morning!
After only 8 weeks on Skyline radio, in August 93 I won the Best New Comer award and Best Overall DJ
During this time the Night club bookings began to flood in and I began playing either by myself or with the sound system mevery weekend, and playing alongside some of the best DJs and Sound Systems in the world, such as Stone Love, David Rodigan, Saxon, Luv Injection and I also began to get a feel of the Dubplate and Sound Clash style of the industry which led me to meet artists such as Beres Hammond, Sanchez, Sugar Minnott, Gregory Issacs, Bounty Killer to name a few.1996-1999
At the end of 1995 I went to collage to study Business Management and Customer care, and during this time I went to The Princes Youth Trust and applied for a grant, on completing my Collage course The Princes trust awarded me my grant and I set up my business in Dudley. IN TING RECORDS was a music outlet selling all aspects of Black/Urban Music, CDs, Videos and accessories. In Ting Records was going extremely well and with it being the only Black/Urban music outlet in Dudley was a huge success but only lasted for 3 years, at the end of those three years I learned a valuable lesson and never looked back since.
In 1998 I was a winner of £600 and yet another trophy (True player winner 1998) after beating a rival DJ in a competition attended by over 1000 people. This was the time when I found myself putting in a lot of effort in my radio show and started to send demos to various legal Stations. Finally in 1999 I joined WCR 1350am which was a Student Radio Station run by Wolverhampton College, I did my radio training course which taught me about production, interview techniques, and more.
I also took this time to leave Rebel International Sound and teamed up with another sound system in Wolverhampton called Jahman Hi Power.
Jahman was a very well known sound that used to play a lot in the 70s and 80s and I knew I could be the one to take them into the new millennium.
We changed the name from Hi Power to Nuclear and the rest is history2000-Present
At the start of 2000 I played a bigger role at WCR and started to train students in radio production and interview skills, I also helped out in promoting WCR so we could aim for a FM license.
Many more awards came my way which include
2004 UK Premier League Sound Clash Winners
We represented at the Winner takes all event in Nottingham attended by over 5000 people, we came in at third place
2005 UK Premier League Sound Clash Runners Up
2006 Best DJ (Passa Passa Music Awards)
2006 Best Wolverhampton Sound (Passa Passa Music Awards)
2006 Best Sound System Selector (Passa Passa Music Awards)
In January 2007 I became Reggae news editor for the Wolverhampton Eye Magazine, which is a monthly magazine based around the goings on in and around the black community in Wolverhampton. My write ups in the magazine are based on the goings on in the reggae industry, I also compile the monthly Reggae Charts.
In February 2007 I said my last goodbyes to Pirate Radio and left Skyline to concentrate on building my career more at WCR and in March 2007 WCR was given a community license and began to broadcast on 101.8fm.
Currently I two shows that go back to back with each other the “Reggae Fiesta†and “The Urban Meltdown†every Wednesday between 10pm-2am for the best in all aspects of Reggae Music. R&B, Hip-Hop, Old School Soul and Slow JamzFuture Plans
To turn my ambitions and goals into reality. I would to like to have a full time role in the radio industry and work my way up to maybe running a Black/Urban Community Radio Station in Wolverhampton.
I would also like to take Jahman Nuclear abroad and play music all over the world starting in Europe
I also have plans for a Music outlet and Internet Cafe
