Sullivan Street

we can fake anything but love, that has to be real

About Me

Dave: Sullivan Street is the new name of an ancient entity...Paul Rader and David Flannery have been making music together for like 25 years? yikes, has it been that long? Our paths have crossed and separated many times over the years, but always seem to reconnect...people say our voices are made to go together, and i am starting to agree with them...
If you come to one of our shows, you'll be amazed at the HUGE array of songs we know!! Between the two of us, we probably have at least a 1000 song list...just ask, we probably know it!! (or can fake it for a big enough tip!) Cant wait to see you!
Paul: We used to be called Stone Cold Monkey but the animal rights activists threatened to sue us and force us to spend six months in a "lean-to" somewhere in the Congo so, for this reason, we changed it Sullivan Street.
Dave taught me my first song when I was 8 years old. It was Old Time Rock-n-Roll by Bob Seger and shortly after that he had me sitting at the kitchen table listening to the guitar solo for Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight over and over...and over...and over again until I could almost play it. I guess that's kind-of how we approach our shows. We play alot of songs that we can almost play and it's a BLAST!!
Dave is my Mother's brother which makes him my Uncle and me his Nephew. Crazy, huh? Growing up in our family was pretty exciting to say the least but my best memories are spending the afternoons trying to soak up as much of the music that Dave was listening to as possible.
Most of you don't know this but Mr. Flannery is a kick-ass songwriter too! He's too modest and humble in this department is you ask me. When you come to one of our shows ABSOLUTELY DEMAND to hear one of his original songs. They're amazing and personal and everything a great song should be. He taught me how to write by example and I owe a portion of credit to him for every song I ever wrote!
Like he said earlier we've been doing this a long time and it never gets old for me. I look forward to seeing all of you. Make sure you introduce yourself!
PS: PLEASE don't ask to hear "Old Time Rock-n-Roll" or "Wonderful Tonight" because I'm gonna hurl if I have to play them one more time! :)
peace and love, paul

Influences: Paul's Influences:
Jimi Page's stage presense, Kurt Cobain's angst, Elliot Smith's vulnerability, John Lennon's politics, John Prine's story-telling, James Taylor's finger picking, Neil Young's vocal melodies, the Late 60's and Early 70's Folk Rock Movement, and David Flannery's encouragement from the time I was 8 years old!

David's Influences:
to be announced...he's watching a movie...he'll be right with you. :) hey, i,m here!! my start in music came from listening to Jim Croce music with my sister Myra and realizing i could kinda sound like him...that same sister used to turn down the radio when i was singing (to embarass me!) so i also learned to be on key all the time or i was gonna get busted out...it seems like music was always a part of my family life..my dad knew a song about any topic and used to amaze me with his knowledge of songs (now i do it to my kids who always say "you know a song about everything, dont you?) anyway, when you see a Sullivan Street show, you're seeing the distillation of all that music, filtered through Paul and me and presented to you (pretty heavy, huh?)
Sounds Like: ...somebody needs a nap.
