Fast moving, spontaneous, decisive, VNDC Fashion Firm team takes the professionalism and creativity of the Fashion Industry and creates a company that raises the standards of Los Angeles High Fashion & Editorial Industry.When I made my first fashion design sketch on paper in 1998, I never thought I was beginning a project that would inspire and permeate most of my design and career for the next 10 years and counting. At 19, I had no idea what I would be doing a week later, much less a decade or two. Being creative was fun, and that was enough to get the fire started. The act of getting out there for the journey without a brilliant plan or destination opened my eyes to the world as a participant, not a voyeur.When I was younger, I bought into the typcial black-and-white, us-versus them simplification of things: provocation and silliness can't mix, a job has to be drudgery, passion is reserved for nights and weekends, and art can't be pure if it has a commercial facet.It hasn't been an easy path. By any means necessary, because even though finacial struggles, failed relaionships, a lack of resources, and many other bullshit, I was always determinded to keep VNDC project growing.From the beginning, VNDC opened my eyes to many facets of capitalism and consumer trend psychology that revolve around supply-and-demand economic theory. The VNDC photoshoots images have raised many issues around the concept of value: as they gained more exposure and familiarity, their value increased to marketers wishing to capitalize on the rebellious cache of LOS ANGELES fashion art; conversely, they became less valuable to those who prided themselves as rebellious outsiders who used VNDC as a secret handshake to enter an elite club. Observing the cultural art of VNDC and the variables determining who embraced or rejected it along the way has been the most valuable aspect of the project.I knew early on that more than being just a vehicle for my company VNDC FASHION FIRM, commentary, and mischief, VNDC could provide a "case study". The hardest thing was for me to decide when I had enough material to release a complete case study, especially when the accumulation of art, fashion and experiences showed no signs of slowing me down...
