Centrifuse
Like a hurricane, Centrifuse has hit the world with a gale force of powerful riffs and hauntingly gentle melodic underpinnings. Taking its influences from hard rock/metal, 80's new wave, and everything else under the sun, Centrifuse brings a new sound that defies genres. The history is as such: In 2007, lead songwriter and guitarist Sean McKenna gathered his ample collection of hooks, licks, and songs and embarked on a search to round out the band and its sound. Through the miracle of modern technology, he quickly found his musical cohorts. Brent Gaylor, a brilliant vocalist and songwriter, brings the riffs to fruition with melodies, lyrics, and dynamic vocals. Drummer John Egan and bassist Denise Tortorelli provide a firm foundation of driving rhythms and deep, dark grooves. These forces fuse to form a sonic wave of timeless anthems that will drive us into the future.
Sean McKenna – Founder, Songwriter, Guitarist (The Riffmaker)
Combing bombastic riffs with unforgettable hooks, and gifted with dexterity that would make most axemen blush, Sean McKenna is the creator, key songwriter, and guitarist for Centrifuse. Sean began playing guitar in the mid 1990's and soon found himself performing at such legendary venues as CBGB's, Elbow Room, Mercury Lounge, and Arlene Grocery. His last band obtained formidable success on the NYC scene before disbanding in 2002, creating a strong buzz of anticipation for more. Since that time, Sean has been, in his words, “writing, writing, and writingâ€. This outpouring of creativity and emotion produced the core set of songs for what is now Centrifuse. Taking his influences from everything to hard rock/metal to 80's new wave, Sean brings forth a new sound while creating timeless, unforgettable rock anthems. Sean exclusively plays ESP guitars and uses Diezel amplification.
Brent Gaylor – Singer, Songwriter, Lyricist (The Voice)
With heartfelt melodies and a voice that harkens everyone from James Hetfield and Axl Rose, to John Fogerty and Eddie Vedder, Brent Gaylor is the lead vocalist and lyricist for Centrifuse. He began his musical career playing roadhouses in rural areas in his hometown of Quebec, Canada. In 1999 he moved to Montreal where he toiled away writing and gigging for 3 years, then formed the band Rise until the band split in 2004. After a series of subsequent musical adventures, he moved to NY where he embarked on several projects including singing for the LI cover/original band MoneyShot. There he met drummer Jon Egan. In early 2008 Brent met with Sean McKenna and started laying down vocal tracks over Sean’s riffs. The rest, as they say, is history. Expect to hear much more from this seasoned and talented performer.
Denise Tortorelli – Bassist (The Groove Machine)
Hailing from the suburbs of LI, NY, bassist and self-proclaimed music freak Denise Tortorelli spent her formative years writing, playing piano/keyboards, dancing, singing, spinning records, and clubbing. Enamored with the thumping basslines she heard coming from the speakers, she knew that she would one day play the bass. After an eclectic series of musical endeavors, that pivotal day finally arrived in 2007. Since then, she has channeled her knowledge and passion for music into the instrument, and is excited to share her energies and abilities with Centrifuse. In addition to laying the groundwork of Centrifuse’s powerful, harmonic grooves, Denise assists in song arrangement and instrumentation. She aspires to produce and is currently formulating a funk/dance side-project. Drawing inspiration from a broad range of bass greats including John Paul Jones, Geddy Lee, Peter Hook, Flea, Eric Avery, Tina Weymouth, Bernard Edwards, Rick James, John Taylor, and Stuart Zender, she is intent on carving her own unique style. “I’m still new enough to the game that I don’t know what the rules are yet,†she says. “So for me, there are no rules.â€
Jon Egan – Drummer (The Rhythm Master)
Jon Egan is responsible for the heart-thumping beats of Centrifuse’s music, and has as long history of bringing the noise. At the age of 12, when most skin-beating upstarts look to John Bonham and Neil Peart as their first influences, Jon Egan’s impetus was Christopher Knight, aka Peter Brady. In an episode where Peter was trying to discover a talent for a musical instrument, Peter played the drums and drove everyone in the Brady household crazy. That was right up Jon's alley. Shortly after that, Jon took up the drums and studied for a few years before joining his first band. Everything took off from there. Jon's main influences are rooted in ‘80s metal and include such legendary drummers as Lars Ulrich, Dave Lombardo, Charlie Benante, and Clive Burr/Nicko McBrain. Jon has played for a number of original and cover bands, and for the past 5 years has played with lead singer, Brent, in a cover/original band called MoneyShot based out of Long Island, NY. About his latest musical undertaking, Jon says, “Centrifuse is a great opportunity to put more of an onus on unique original material, recording, and playing out in different venues to a different audience.â€
