About Me

Let me introduce myself, my name is Scott.
I was born and bred in New Jersey, USA, originally from the inner city of New Jersey. I grew up with simple beginnings - some have even called where I grew up a ghetto. To me it is still home.
I came to Australia to play basketball, and now I’m based here.

My Motivation

I believe in two key concepts. The first is that life is what you make it.
In the biographies of countless successful and self-made people, they credit their success to an understanding of this key concept - that only through their own hard work and initiative will they meet their goals.
Second, I believe that there will always be people who doubt the things you do. For example, you wake up one morning with the best idea. You could be so excited that you have to tell someone, so you call a friend. You’re so wound up that you can hardly get the words out. Your enthusiasm makes you expect they will also be excited; but instead, their response is a blank look. They might say, “your idea is ok… but are you sure someone else hasn’t already thought of that?” Such negativity and lack of enthusiasm can drain the life out of you, putting out your motivational fire; it may even discourage you from following up the idea and developing it past that initial brainwave into a success.

Following my dreams

A long time ago, my mother gave me some sage advice. “You can’t expect people to get excited about your dream… just remember, it’s your dream.” I remember when I finished university, and I wanted to take the next step in my basketball career. Everyone else was trying to get into the NBA, but that wasn’t what I wanted to pursue. I had a few tryouts with a few clubs, but my real dream was to go overseas and play international pro ball.

Perseverance counts

People said I was crazy, and that I would never make it. At the time I didn’t know what caused them to think like this, and I realize now that I don’t want to know. I didn’t give their negativity a second thought as I was focused on my goals.
To other people with dreams and aspirations, I offer you this. If you have what you believe are good ideas, don't let bad circumstances or the negativity of others stop you from working toward them. We live in a world with many challenges. Just stay strong, trust and believe in yourself. A positive attitude will help you succeed.

Why TALKFEST?

My beliefs in these two concepts as important to success were also a big part of why I founded my own phone company, TALKFEST. Because I live so far from home, keeping in touch with family via phone was costing me a fortune. I tried using prepaid phone cards as a way to save my bills from being too big. I remember buying a $10 card that gave me 500 minutes of talk time. But out of that 500 minutes, I probably only spoke about 100. Often the phone card company would disappear overnight, leaving me with unclaimed talk time that I couldn’t get back.

Fair, and Cheap

It seemed as if the only two choices were large landline bills or the unreliable prepaid cards. Not only that, but the lines were so bad, it started me thinking about what alternatives might be out there that were cheaper and more reliable.

When I first wanted to start my worldwide phone company, everyone I shared my idea with said I was crazy, and that it would never work. How was I going to compete with all the other established VoIP companies around? Everyday my friends told me this, but still I kept going, because I’m the kind of person who blocks out this negativity if I can see that perseverance will lead to success.

My Success

TALKFEST now has over 3 million users worldwide. I have dealers all over the world working for me, and more and more people are reaping the benefits of cheap VoIP technology to keep in touch with family and friends. Again, proof that if you believe in yourself and persevere, you will get the things you want in life. I believe that the success of my business is the perfect example of what happens when you believe in yourself.

My mission

I hope that my dream of having an inexpensive phone network will help you bring family and friends all over the world closer, by providing voice and video communications from your mobile phone, computer or home phone to anywhere in the world. I also want my network to be accessible to people from the same simple beginnings that I had. This is why my plans start at $5 a month, so that you can talk as long as you want to without the bills or hassle.

Share your stories

If there are people out there that would like to share there experiences and dreams on how they achieved their goals, I would be humbled if you would share them in my comments. I’m sure it will inspire others around the world.
Thank you for reading about my business and my story of success.
