I am here for Friends

About Me

I was born in a town known for a chicken that lived for 38 days with no head. Things have never been quite right since.

My Interests

Reading, Baseball, Rock Climbing, Fencing (well, I'd like to learn), Water Skiing (Despite the fact that I'm not that good at it), Rollerblading, Bike Riding, Hiking, Camping, Swimming, Writing, Art, Art History, Mythology, Spontaneous Combustion, Volcanoes, Scrabble, Gin Rummy, Pirates, Elephants, World Domination (oh, you caught that one, did you?), Australia, British Accents, Drums (another talent yet to master), Karate (though Matt will tell you that needs work), Detective Mysteries, Projects That Involve Hammers, Paint, and Spackle But NOT Tape Measures, Juggling (hey, I haven't knocked myself unconscious yet), Rowboats and Canoes, Snow and All That Comes With it, Thunderstorms, The Smell of Fall, Coffee, Spanish, Arabic, the Boston Red Sox, Flying, Kite Flying, and Life. I'm a huge fan of life.

I'd like to meet:

Music:

Andrew Bird, Barenaked Ladies, The Beatles, Ben Folds, Ben Folds Five, Ben Kweller, Billy Joel, Blondie, Blues Traveler, Cake, Colbie Caillat, Coldplay, Counting Crows, Cranberries, Dave Matthews Band, David Cook, David Gray, Five for Fighting, Gavin DeGraw, Great Big Sea, Green Day, Guster, Harry Belafonte, Hootie and the Blowfish, Howie Day, Jack Johnson, Jamie Cullum, Janis Joplin, Jim Croce, Jimmy Durante, Joe, Marc's Brother, Joe Pisapia, Journey, Keith Urban, Kelly Clarkson, The Killers, The Low Life, Manfred Mann's Earth Band, Maroon 5, Michael Buble, The Monkees, Nickel Creek, Norah Jones, OAR, Phil Collins, Plain White T's, The Postal Service, The Presidents of the United States of America, Prince, The Proclaimers, Queen, REO Speedwagon, Rufus Wainwright, Rush, Sara Bareilles, Self, Sheryl Crow, Smash Mouth, Steve Miller Band, Sugar Ray, Sugarcult, The Tragically Hip, Train, Uncle Kracker, Vanderbee, Virginia Coalition, Weezer, The Who, Wilco, The Wonders, and Yes. I do like many other groups, and I'm very open to listening to new music. Otherwise, I'd never know what bands I was missing out on, and that would be a shame.

Movies:

I have a lot of movies I love, and most don't make any sense to anyone else. I like movies that make me laugh, make me want to rush off and save the world, or give me hope that we can change the world. Oh, and I've recently decided that Alan Rickman is the master of all villainous characters.

August Rush, School Ties, Pirates of the Caribbean, Crocodile Dundee, Horton Hears a Who, Princess Bride, Patch Adams, Newsies, Pride and Prejudice, Shawshank Redemption, While You Were Sleeping, I.Q., When Harry Met Sally, Lethal Weapon, Maverick, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Phantom of the Opera, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Becoming Jane, The Prestige, The Illusionist

Television:

I don't watch much television, but I love House, LOST, Law and Order: CI, Law and Order: SVU, and Monk.

Books:

Nothing makes my heart beat faster than the mystery of an unread book. I love classic literature: Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Alexandre Dumas, and Mark Twain. I want to read all of the classic novels I can. I also love Douglas Adams, Bill Watterson, and Darby Conley. My favorite books are Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide by Douglas Adams, The Diaries of Adam and Eve by Mark Twain, and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, and the Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. I also enjoyed White Noise by Don Delillo, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, and, just for fun, A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore.

I just finished Last Chance to See by Douglas Adams and Elephant Destiny by Martin Meredith. I am currently reading The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins, which is remarkable since I have picked the book up with the intent of reading it half a dozen times this year. I like it so far. Wilkie Collins is worthy of praise.

Heroes:

My parents, for raising me to be the person I am today; my sister, who always sets a good example and makes me proud to be her sister; the friends in my life who, despite the fact that they're all brilliant and incredibly busy working to change the world, always make sure they take the time to let me know that they care, and that it's okay that we don't fit in with the rest of the world. I'm surrounded by amazing people, and even though they can't fly or shoot webs from their wrists, they help me get through life, and that seems pretty heroic to me.
