i think i just said it all in the headline, no? hardy, har-har. ;]Back in the South after a decade. More School. More Writing. Started teaching college composition. Engaged in a custody battle with my possibly insane, and definitely lying, ex. It's been 5 months since I have seen my little girl. But I have a good lawyer and I have evidence and truth on my side. Cross your fingers for me that the legal system cares.I miss California and all my friends in Sacto and San Francisco. But I hope I'm making friends out here too. I'm enjoying the culture shock of living in a time warp.

My Interests

I'm a writer, so there's that. Politics. Philosophy. My daughter.

I'd like to meet:

Oscar Wilde. Morrissey. Bjork. Phillip K Dick. Melville. Wittgenstein. Kant. Cortazar. Calvino. Stanislaw Lem. Atwood. Whoever went around downtown Sacramento a couple years ago and spray painted "bjork" all over benches, streets, sidewalks, and construction signs. Bill Clinton--even though he isn't very liberal and, frankly, there's so much wrong with who he is/was, i have always liked the guy--better than what we got now for sure. Chomsky. Howard Zinn. Charlette Delbo: a french resistance member who survived the Nazi Concentration camps and wrote amazing poetry and prose "fiction" about it. Lydia Davis. the Dali Lama. a friend, who no longer wishes to see me, though i don't know why: S.M.L
I wish my sister would call or come by and i hope to meet, someday, my niece/nephew. Stephen Colbert.

Music:

not the stuff on the radio, that's for sure. Imperial Teen (please, please make another album!), Xiu Xiu (we see him every time he plays in the bay area--beautiful)... My Morning Jacket, bjork is a goddess or something... peter gabriel often reaches great heights... oh, oh, Loscil is a really great noise/electronica/ambient project. great stuff, i love it. spacey... Morrissey is a great love of mine.

Movies:

memento. donnie darko. the blue grass. spirited away. too many more to remember. run lola run. etc, etc. more recently: new world (movie poetry, i think), history of violence, brick

Television:

I LOVE SQUIDBILLIES! You don't understand, I know these, uh, characters and am related to many of them. It brings me great joy to see they've made it to the tiny screen with proper recognition. I do stipulatize, of course, my discouragementing associating with such ethics.Other TV: too much. it's a disease. 24. Lost. Law and Order is TV Crack--i don't even like it... sigh. news--so i can continuously be reminded of how horrible the main stream media is at reporting facts as opposed to spin.

Books:

Lem, Wilde, Melville, Orwell, Ayn Rand (unfortunately--"i was a kid" is my best excuse), Atwood, New Narrative, most experimental fiction writing, etc, etc

Heroes:

the people who cared for me and protected me at my lowest when absolutely no one else, including other family and my now ex-husband, did: Drake, my maternal grandmother, my maternal grandfather, and my mom. Unconditional love. It really is all that matters when the cards are down and your life, maybe even your freedom (yes, I believe I, oddly, just valued freedom over life... I will have to think on that), is at stake.
