WA BMG 44

About Me

Wa BMG 44 is a pillar of the Senegalese Hip-Hop community. With over 25 combined years experience on the mic, Lyrical44 (AKA Nigga Lyrical Cheddo) and Matador put on the most over the top, energetic live performance out of any Senegalese hip-hop crew past or present. In 2000 Wa BMG 44 produced the controversial classics "Def Ci Yaw" which spoke out against government corruption and thievery which had a huge enormous impact on the 2000 Senegalese elections. These days WA BMG 44 find themselves in Europe on a regular base due to the fact that they are constantly on tour. After recording their classic hip-hop anthem "44" on African Underground Vol.1, they went into the studio in Belgium where they worked on their highly anticipated second full length release. This album, called "44 4 Life" came out in 2004 and scored a nationwide hit with the first single "Jox Ma Sa 5". They also got the Award for Best Senegalese Hip-Hop Album in 2004 for this production. For this summers tour they will be accompagnied by the female mc Fatim, who's kicking it alover Senegal and who became 44's firstlady of honour!‘Wa Bokk Menmen Guestu’ literaly means: ‘All together for better thingking’... The group has, as a precursor of an engaged rap; resolutely militant, against segregation, nepotism, decade and all forms of injustice; created a new genre: ‘Jihadcore’. This formula is based on a wordplay that resumes the spirit of the crew:‘Ji’ means ‘to sow’ in Wolof; sowing the spirit of hardcore... ‘Jeha core’ means ‘you've got the light’ in Sérére; 1 of their basic hypotheses... ‘Jihad’ means ‘Holy War’ in Arabic; the choose the one of the word...
