The Greening's mission statement is to push pop music to new frontiers through their blend of accessible experimentation. Our first stab at this was realized on our debut LP, 2003's After Shoal Parlor (released on our label, Zairecords--it's available with secure Paypal checkout here!). And then . . . we went behind the scenes.Throughout the years since ASP's release, we've written and learned three albums worth of songs, played out in San Francisco regularly, done one West Coast tour, and played all over Northen California (with semi-annual trips to Los Angeles). All the while, we have saved our pennies in anticipation of setting up our own makeshift studio. After hitting many potholes on the road to Realizing That Dream, we're spending early 2008 to late 2009 recording 34 songs (with only San Francisco shows here and there in between lengthy sessions) that will be whittled down to two 12-song albums that will see release in 2009 and 2010, many of which will be available to download here. The first of these two follow-ups will feature live favorites "(She's So) Electric" and "Black Lotus" and has a tentative release date of late Fall 2009. The second has a tentative release date of late Fall 2010, and will feature live staples "A Victory?," "Leningrad, Slips and Knots," "Dualk" and the still as-yet-untitled "Dirge."
As we record these two albums, every few months we'll be loading five new songs up to this page. The third batch of songs was recorded from January 9th to March 13th, 2009 and is currently in the mixing stage and should be uploaded in late April, leaving the one up batch two (recorded late May to mid August 2008, mixed mid August to late October, remixed to their final versions December). Also, look for videos for "Sunday Afternoon," "Better Days" and "(She's So) Electric" in the coming months.
