Thanks for taking the time to check out our music. First and foremost we would all like to congratulate Chelsea for one, becoming a finalist in the International Song Writing Competition in the Lyrics category, and two for also acheiving an honorable mention. This is a HUGE accomplishment and she should be repeatedly commended. Way to go Chels, you rock!!! She did this in competition with thousands of people all over the world and was one of 10 people chosen in this category. CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the first time we have put it out there to the public so thanks for listening! If you don’t know already, The Gift is Matt and Chelsea Miller, we’re a happily married couple with a two year old daughter named Greysen. So far, we can’t put anything impressive on our page like “The Gift is currently in the studio working with Grammy award winning so and so……..†But, if we were to say something about our time in the studio it would be a little more like, “The Gift is currently recording on their computer in the guest bedroom of their suburban home with their 2 year old screaming/crying/talking in the background.†We write music because that is what we love doing and if anything (like a career) came of it that would be cool.... As far as our endeavors as working musicians (we would love to have full time careers as songwriters) we have begun submitting to various labels and producers as of January of 2008, so we’ll see. You can read in our latest blog entry that one of our submissions has made the ISC finals, there were over 15,000 entries in this years competition. We entered "Mad River" into the lyrics only category and so far it has made it into the top 15.....-A little about us individually -Matt began playing guitar by ear when he was about ten and for the most part has not put it down (except for meals and other fun….. ) for the past 23 years. He studied music at Colorado State University under master guitarist Alex Kommodore and holds a degree in Music Therapy with a minor in Classical Guitar Performance. Matt’s formal, classical music education has provided him with the foundation needed to perform and compose in any musical style known to man. For over fifteen years Matt has been in numerous rock/ska/punk/funk/soul/alternative bands, the most recent being Omega Band which he left in 2006 after moving from Washington DC.Chelsea began playing piano by ear at about the age of three and endured many years of piano lessons into her latter teens. Although piano is her instrument of choice, she rarely plays these days and would much rather be writing lyrics, poetry and short-stories. She has been writing poetry since childhood and began composing short musical pieces in college (where she earned a management degree despite the fact that she detests anything having to do with business) When Chelsea met Matt, she was finally able to combine her love of music and poetry and life finally started to make sense with Matt’s guitar work and composition. Early on in their relationship she began pirating his compositions with lyrics and melodies when they were left unattended, and that was the beginning. Although Matt was born to perform, Chelsea is more inclined to just stay on the writing side of things and does not consider herself to be anything more than a writer, for now….
