Nottingham based mc, general is definitely not someone new to the game. From the age of 16 he developed a love of garage/grime which led him to form a crew called Pure Inspiration, a group of similarly minded MCs (including J-Star, Stan, Nitro, and Double V) with a love of garage and performing. They went on to have success in the city featuring on raves such as Lords Of The Manor, Going On Shady and spitting alongside some of the best from the UK, including names like Pay As U G, So Solid, More Fire and many more and also appearing regularly on Nottingham’s premier pirate station 7-11. The ongoing progression and success went on to solidify the feeling in a young General that music was a career he planned to see thru to the end. As everyone grew up and situations changed General, (at this time 18) and Stan (BoyWonder) decided they wanted to branch off and form a new crew which would embrace the new sound coming from London called grime. Guided and mentored by DJ BadBoy T they formed NG CARTEL, a new and energetic crew which over the yrs has been a prominent force in the midlands grime scene. MCs such as S Double, Wariko, MD (IOC), Limzy, J Littles and Sparky all come through Ng Cartel and went on to have varying degrees of success within the scene appearing on various raves and radio stations up and down the country. It was at this point that General met Rob Steels and after analysis of the structure and mechanics of the industry they embarked on forming NG Records to try and apply the business to all of the music they were making. Enjoying underground success with the label, and further success with NG CARTEL, General and Rob then pledged to continue to represent the music they both loved through NG RECORDS and provided a mechanism for Notts talent to shine through. At this point NG had also secured a legal radio show on Kemet radio which helped further to support the scene they loved. At the same time all this was going on, the entrepreneurial side of Generals character led him to become involved with and help form Rep UK, an underground music shop and label, putting out cds from the very cream of the crop. In the long journey that started as a 16 yr old mc, General has since secured himself an actual career within the music industry, a feat attempted and failed by many. With this success though General remains a down to earth, approachable person with a passion for music that is 2nd to none. With so many prospects in the pipeline the yr 2008 definitely seems like one to watch!
